Past couple of years, we have a very whimsical weather in Kathmandu. It rains out of nowhere in March and its cold in the month of April. We don’t have winter as we used to have in the 90s when it was so difficult to even run your hands on running water (I am sure a lot of you who has a beautiful childhood Kathmandu in the 90s can relate to what I am saying right now).

One of the solid reasons in the rising temperature of the city are the pretty ladies in those lovely chiffon dresses and the hot men in their shorts and slippers. Honestly I love to check out people and their attitude when they know they are looking chic (Come on! Don’t ask me how do I know...girls who are pretty and dress well know that they are pretty chic…LOL). They surely are experts in flaunting their assets…if you know what I mean!

Anyway, I realized in past couple of days, Sajha has a lot of threads where health, six packs, exercising and diet are massively talked about. I even saw someone going from size pot belly to six pack!! It made me wonder, is being slim always means that the person is healthy or it’s important that you exercise and stay healthy. And what better can happen to me than a big gala event regarding Fashion. It will be a flood of size zero to heroine to hot and happening to anything.

Lets leave the event aside (If I start writing about the event maybe this thread will be as long as a report on that). My prime focus was to do a bit of sampling and talk to THE size zeros. I had talked to few girls from the ramp and many from the guests. The results was pretty interesting (Keep in mind that these girls are from size zero to size 6).

·         *Half of them argued that they don’t exercise because they don’t have the tendency to put on weight even if they eat anything they want.

·         *When asked if they have any ailment for a long time, 75% of them have either gastric, acidity, irregular menstrual cycles, vaginal difficulties and hairfall.

·         *Out of ten, seven girls have eating disorder. They are very picky about what they eat. They are very fussy about eating soo they end up eating what they want which are most of the time junkfood.

These are few of the most common answers I got from the ladies I have talked to. One of the guests, who is also my friend’s colleague who is apparently size 14 gave me a very good answer. She quoted “See, I know I am fat. I have a tendency to put of weight even by breathing. That is why I exercise because I don’t take my body for granted. I watch what I eat and I am always careful. But these girls they sometimes take their body for granted. Most of them don’t even exercise properly. So at the end of the day I might not fit into the regular clothes that you find in Kathmandu market, but if you are talking about health, I can beat anyone of them on stamina test and my cholesterol and sugar will be very in control because I am fat and I am conscious”.

I felt that it is very important to mobilize your body, do some servicing time and again and of course control the BMI (Body Mass Index is a number calculated from a person's weight and height. BMI provides a reliable indicator of body fatness for most people and is used to screen for weight categories that may lead to health problems), but in the process we should not forget to love ourselves for what we are and accept our individuality. It is essential to be healthy rather than being unhealthily slim.

I agree on you writing ...

I am healthy type too...exercise regularly...infact I just finished my 8k race this weekend..... I eat what I want to eat...life is too short so I enjoy via all my 'senses' , taste-buds being one of them....
