If you are coming from a civil engg. background and want to switch to IT - go for QA or BA jobs. Programming has a steep learning curve and if you don't have the background, you may lose the patience very soon.
Thanks atiranjeet. I can still take some classes. What do u all suggest that might help me in the field??
For QA jobs - I think if you take training at the consultancy, you would be able to start.
To learn programming, start with site like codeacademy.com. Learn the fundamentals of object oriented programming. Learn to write sql queries and stored procedures. Learn the basics of html, css, javascript and jquery.
If you are really serious and want to invest in harnessing your programming skills, look at the site like pluralsight.com (this one is really good), udemy.com, linda.com . And, remember there is always youtube.com which is always free.
Dhanybaad Atiranjeet for the info. That sounds helpful. anyway, aru kunai sajhaite chan jo civil major baata IT join gareka??
Dude,
I am a good example of how i succeed into IT company without any IT knowledge. IF you would like to enter into IT industry, you definitely can. There are easy job as well as hard jobs in IT industry depending what level, what position you handle the job. But definitely you will require at least some trainning of around 1 month. For me i took trainning for 2 weeks and what ever the consutancy train you there, doesn't really apply at the work. You just get the basic idea of how the IT industry works. IT industry is really Big.
If you wana know more in detail email me your name and no in my vitual Email: haridhakal1984np@hotmail.com , I will call you and let me know. I am still working in the IT industry with completely ZERO knowledge but now been so long, and already used to it now, So you should be more familiar with some computer knoweldges since you have civil engineering background.
