 Hello Friends!
I am gonna visit home for the first time after I came to the US almost 4 years ago. Expectedly, I have some electronic items and others for gifts and personal use which I need to take with me. Since this is the first time I will deal with Customs and TIA I'm not sure what should I expect. I will list the items which I will have to take with me below. Please suggest me if its okay to take them all with me or I will have to deal with taxes, bribery and all that. Im pretty sure some of you have experienced similar situation..please suggest me. Also, should I keep them in luggage or my carry on bag?

My personal items:
Cell phone-1
Camera-1
Laptop-1

Gift items:
Watches-5
Toys-3
Point and shoot cameras-2
Laptop-1
Used cell phone-1
iPhone (used)- 1
Samsung galaxy tabs- 3 (10.1 inch-2 and 7 inch-1)
cell phone-1

I know its too much..but what can I do..can't say no to certain people in your life..and can't go without any gift for certain other people in your life.

Thank you!

in the TIA they usually don't open your baggages. so you're fine as you are carrying small items ( I mean not like TV or Bluray players).

regarding how to carry, I would suggest you to get a good size backpack (for laptops and other electronic items)  in addition to your carry on luggage.
My big luggage seemed like it had been on the bottom of the other luggages, and the lock was broken (nothing was taken from it  though). So I suggess only put like non-fragine items in your main luggages like clothes (if you're carrying electronic items in original box, then that's different).

So no worry, I've taken even more than what you're taking now :).

 hey sajhaguy69,
thanks for sharing your experience..i could take a sigh of relief
i really want to take my personal laptop with me..do you think its okay to take 2 laptops? and the airline said that i could only take one carry on luggage which should fit in the overhead compartment of the airline..so i was thinking to buy that little suitcase type bag..i hope you know which one im talking about..so can i take that and a backpack too?

Personally, I suggest you to carry 2 of each electronic items (eg, 2 cell phones, 2 laptops, 2 camera etc). In that case, you can claim one of them to be your personal item and the second one as an official ite. Besides those two, you might be in a trouble (might be not) and might end up paying twice the price of the item. Just be careful.

I just went home to Nepal this Dashin, and took one big backpack (fitting 17.2" laptop) and one small carry-on luggange.in plane. I saw other passengers do that same too.
I would suggest you buy a sturdy laptop backpack ( I bought this one : link
a
nd put both laptops in your backpack when going from here. TSA requres you to take out laptops and put in separate bin while scanning). Then when you're in your final transit, you can put one laptop in your carry one luggage (but it doesn't matter, as I mentioned they don't open your bags in kathmandu airport).

haha I didn't mean TV in your luggage lol, in general if airport officials in Kathmandu see you with some higher dollar items in open like TV or such items, then they will give you hassle and try to make you pay tax or may be make some personal money out of you.
I took charging dongle with me in my backpack, no problem.
