Do I really have to give you special attention just because you're a doctor, engineer, or professor? Come on. I get it—we all came from a poor country and worked hard to build a life here in the U.S. You've done well in your job. Good for you.

But is that the only reason you expect people to notice you—especially when you go to a party?

Some people introduce themselves by saying their job first. That really surprises me. What do you want me to say? “Wow, you work at Kaiser Permanente? That’s amazing!” Or maybe, “You have a Ph.D. and work at NIH? Oh no, let me clap for you.”

Well—congratulations on your success (yes, I’m being a little sarcastic). But what does your job have to do with the meatballs at the party?

Honestly, I’m more interested in finding the waiter with the wine glasses. I’m just trying to enjoy my third round of drinks—not your life story.

People who let success do the talking are weak minded person whose brains have shrunk due to overthinking and restlessness.this is my POV. Its upto u people whether u take in a positive way or negative .

In America we don't give shit to ur profession. At party you all mofu who brag or walk at the party with the employee of the month badge/sticker up ur chest you came frm a sssshittttt hole country. Imagine a Nepali PhD doing dishwash in UAE and while a school drop out is a software engineer with no English to attend a meeting with always getting a pass..shot em en e-mail this mofo didn't understand shit.

Tyo Garib desh ko Garib manasikta ho.in poor countries like nepal or India people care more about what they do and how much they make rather than who they are .even while dating people ask about their profession at last in usa but in nepal or India that's the first question.i sometimes think why these mindset came in nepal may be Because surviving is difficult and important in poor countries so they think money and job is the most important thing .That doctor guy have done residency and studied in usa but his mindset is still in nepal ,he has learned medicine but hasn't learnt any thing about american culture and values.lot of values are good in our culture but we should throw away these kind of values. In usa People become doctor because they love to learn about human body and disease .but in nepal people become doctor to inflate their ego.Thats why India nepal generate people like IIT baba or suicide in students.education should make you more humble because you know after doing PHD that you know nothing .I am sure the doctor guy doesn't like his job because he became doctor for the wrong reasons.

I'm not looking down on anyone’s job. Every kind of work has value. All I’m saying is, it’s not easy to get invited to a big, special event. And once we’re there, ready to have a good time, if we start talking about our daily work lives, it makes things dull. Life would feel pretty boring if we couldn’t take a break from career talk now and then.
