PM Balen in TIME 100!
Our PM Balen is making news again, and this time it is not for not willing to speak to the media or going to his office in Singha Durbar at 830 am and going back home to Baluwatar after 6 pm. The PM is on the 2026 TIME 100 List of influential people. Most of us are happy about it, but the usual gang of old school jholeys is whining again because they see an Amriki conspiracy behind the recent election results and even the TIME100 List as well.
What our old school politicians and jholeys should understand is that just because they themselves had foreign backers in the past doesn't mean that all those who get the opportunity to lead this country have had help from foreigners. How many foreigners voted in the recent election?
It is an insult to all Nepali voters, and we hope our old school politicians and their chamchas realize that their days are over because they will not be in the majority government for decades if the Balen government continues to work for the people instead of the mafia byaparis.
It has not even been three weeks, and most of us have found vast changes in our government offices. The same old lazy bums are now on time, do their work diligently and provide better services to service seekers instead of making them go to a dozen of rooms to get their paperwork done. And in many offices, the days of dalals providing express services for a fee which will be shared with the sarkari karmarcharis are now over.
Balen has been chosen for who knows what reasons. TIME is a magazine. It has its own agenda both for marketing and business purposes when it comes with such kind of lists but it becomes a badge of honor for some who are on the list and it becomes a source of pride for some folks like us when we have our people on the TIME 100.
TIME chose Balen for its list not because he has been working quietly since taking over but he could be an influence in the region with his working style and bring in reforms not only in Nepal but also in South Asia. The Indian media is watching carefully, and some are even questioning their own government and how a 35-year-old engineer and rapper and former Mayor and now PM of Nepal can do away with many loopholes for the bureaucracy to be corrupt and bring an end to the VIP Culture and arrogance.
Some see it as not only a challenge for the Gen Zs of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and other South Asian countries but also a wake-up call for its people to elect someone who could minimize corruption, be more transparent and provide good governance and make people feel that their government is there for them instead of exploiting them.
There are a lot of challenges for the Balen government ahead and we know that there will be some pushback from the hakims, old jholeys and their Ba, and mafia byaparis to prevent the new government from working for the people.
There will lot of folks who will try to make fun of the Balen government after the 100 days in power, trying to convince us that they have not achieved most of the stuff they promised to deliver within that time frame. This is not a race. This is not some 100-day challenge to lose 100 kgs.
This government has the mandate to govern us for five years. 35 years of loot and misuse of authority have made our country and our bureaucracy weak. It is not going to be back to normal with a weekly dose of steroids or some antibiotics. We need to go for a full-on chemo to get rid of the cancer cells and make this country come alive and be back on track from a self-induced coma.
