Privacy Policy

Sajha Community (sajha.com) · Last updated September 28, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information Sajha Community ("Sajha", "we", "us") collects when you use sajha.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the site you agree to this policy.

Information we collect

  • Account information: your name (display name), email address, phone number, and a password (stored only as a one-way hash). If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address from Google. We keep that name and a record of display-name changes for account support and safety; other members never see them.
  • Profile information you choose to add: photo, region, interests, skills, education and work. You control who can see each item.
  • Content you post: discussions, replies, classified listings, events, service provider listings, quotes and requests, reviews, photos and files you upload, and messages you send to other members.
  • Payment information: paid listings are paid through PayPal. PayPal handles your card or bank details; we receive only a confirmation of the payment (amount, transaction id and the PayPal account email).
  • Text-message (SMS) information: if you opt in to text alerts, your US mobile number, the alerts you chose, the time and IP address of your consent, and a log of the texts we sent you.
  • Technical information: IP address (and the approximate city it points to), browser type, and cookies (see below). Push-notification details if you turn on notifications on a device.

How we use information

  • To run your account, show your posts and listings, and let members and vendors contact each other.
  • To send service messages: email verification, password resets, replies, quotes, and, if you opt in, text and push alerts.
  • To keep the site safe: preventing spam, abuse and fraud, rate-limiting, and moderating content.
  • To suggest a region (using your IP address) and to translate posts between English and Nepali.
  • To improve the site and answer your questions.

Text messages (SMS)

We use your mobile number only to send the text alerts you signed up for and to confirm your number. See the SMS section of our Terms of Service for how to opt in, stop (reply STOP), or get help (reply HELP).

We do not sell or share your SMS opt-in data or personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. Mobile information and SMS consent are not shared with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes.

Giveaways

When you enter a giveaway we keep the name and email address you give us, to confirm your entry, run the random draw and tell you if you win. The person giving the item away sees only how many people entered, never who. If you win and say yes, you choose how that person can reach you: they receive your name and only the contact details you tick (your email address, your phone number, or messaging you through Sajha), and you receive theirs, so you can arrange the handover. Phone numbers added for a handover are deleted about 60 days after it. Entering also creates a free Sajha account for your email address. We do not use this information for marketing.

Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us run Sajha, and only as needed for that purpose:

  • Twilio (delivering text messages) and our email provider (delivering email).
  • PayPal (payments) and Google (sign-in, if you use it, and embedded maps).
  • Cloudflare (network security and delivery) and our hosting provider.
  • OpenAI (machine translation of post text between English and Nepali; only the text being translated is sent - and the Sajha AI Assistant: the questions you ask it are sent so that an answer can be written). If you ask the assistant a question without logging in, we keep the text of the question to improve the assistant, but not who asked it.
  • A third-party IP-location service (your IP address, to suggest a region).

Content you post publicly, and profile items you set to Public, can be seen by anyone. We may also disclose information if the law requires it or to protect the rights, safety and security of our members and the site.

Cookies

We use cookies to keep you signed in, remember your language and region, protect forms from forgery, and remember choices such as banners you closed. You can block cookies in your browser, but parts of the site may not work.

We also count page visits ourselves to learn which parts of the site are used most. These statistics are anonymous: a random number in a cookie tells one browser from another, the only location kept is the country the visit came from (not the address or city), and we do not record which member viewed which page. We do not use third-party analytics or advertising trackers for this.

If you use the Marriage Score Keeper, the games you save (the player names you type, the deals and the points) are stored on our server. If you are not logged in, a cookie holding a random code links those games to your browser so they are still there next time; they are deleted after about a year without use. If you log in, they move to your account. We also keep the approximate city your connection points to with each saved game (not the address itself); only Sajha administrators can see it, to learn where the tool is used. If you send feedback from that page, your message and the name and email you choose to add are emailed to Sajha administrators and are not kept anywhere else. We do not use this cookie or these games for tracking or advertising, and we do not share them.

How long we keep information

We keep account and content data while your account is active. Notifications are removed automatically after a period of time. Text-message logs are kept for troubleshooting and as a record of consent. You can ask us to delete your account and information at any time.

Your choices

  • Edit your profile and who can see each item in your account.
  • Turn off text alerts in Text Message Alerts settings or by replying STOP; turn off push notifications in your device or browser.
  • Ask us to access, correct or delete your information by emailing admin@sajha.com.

Security

We use measures such as encrypted connections and hashed passwords. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children

Sajha is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. The date at the top shows when it last changed. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept it.
