This Privacy Policy explains what information Sajha Community ("Sajha", "we", "us") collects when you use sajha.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the site you agree to this policy.

Information we collect

Account information: your name (display name), email address, phone number, and a password (stored only as a one-way hash). If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address from Google.
Profile information you choose to add: photo, region, interests, skills, education and work. You control who can see each item.
Content you post: discussions, replies, classified listings, events, service provider listings, quotes and requests, reviews, photos and files you upload, and messages you send to other members.
Payment information: paid listings are paid through PayPal. PayPal handles your card or bank details; we receive only a confirmation of the payment (amount, transaction id and the PayPal account email).
Text-message (SMS) information: if you opt in to text alerts, your US mobile number, the alerts you chose, the time and IP address of your consent, and a log of the texts we sent you.
Technical information: IP address, browser type, and cookies (see below). Push-notification details if you turn on notifications on a device.

How we use information

To run your account, show your posts and listings, and let members and vendors contact each other.
To send service messages: email verification, password resets, replies, quotes, and, if you opt in, text and push alerts.
To keep the site safe: preventing spam, abuse and fraud, rate-limiting, and moderating content.
To suggest a region (using your IP address) and to translate posts between English and Nepali.
To improve the site and answer your questions.

Text messages (SMS)

We use your mobile number only to send the text alerts you signed up for and to confirm your number. See the SMS section of our Terms of Service for how to opt in, stop (reply STOP), or get help (reply HELP).

We do not sell or share your SMS opt-in data or personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. Mobile information and SMS consent are not shared with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes.

Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us run Sajha, and only as needed for that purpose:

Twilio (delivering text messages) and our email provider (delivering email).
PayPal (payments) and Google (sign-in, if you use it, and embedded maps).
Cloudflare (network security and delivery) and our hosting provider.
OpenAI (machine translation of post text between English and Nepali; only the text being translated is sent).
A third-party IP-location service (your IP address, to suggest a region).

Content you post publicly, and profile items you set to Public, can be seen by anyone. We may also disclose information if the law requires it or to protect the rights, safety and security of our members and the site.

Cookies

We use cookies to keep you signed in, remember your language and region, protect forms from forgery, and remember choices such as banners you closed. You can block cookies in your browser, but parts of the site may not work.

How long we keep information

We keep account and content data while your account is active. Notifications are removed automatically after a period of time. Text-message logs are kept for troubleshooting and as a record of consent. You can ask us to delete your account and information at any time.

Your choices

Edit your profile and who can see each item in your account.
Turn off text alerts in Text Message Alerts settings or by replying STOP; turn off push notifications in your device or browser.
Ask us to access, correct or delete your information by emailing admin@sajha.com.

Security

We use measures such as encrypted connections and hashed passwords. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children

Sajha is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. The date at the top shows when it last changed. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept it.
