Among many “hotties” so conspicuous in the Nepalese community in America, Nabina Basnet is one of the most elegant, friendly,open-minded pretty lady with very generous spirit and great moral values. She prides herself more for the values she stands for than cheap popularity and applause. Here’s a rare lady we can be very proud of. Actively involved in the fashion industry and community activities since an early age, Basnet is not only Miss Nepal USA-Second Runner Up but also an Ambassador for CyberSansar.com, a popular web-portal of Nepal. She is also chairperson for ANA-Extravaganza, a fashion show, that provides a platform for talented young folks for self-expression. Basnet represents passion for her work, dedication and love of life that must be learned by any body who wants to be happy. There is no lack of models and fashionistas in the liberalized world of today but there is a sore need of role-models in our modern society for young girls who are growing up in MTV and Nightclub society that teaches “pleasure is happiness, become pleasure seekers”. Young gals need heroes and NABINA BASNET is definitely one of their ideals. She has a sense of responsibility for the society she is part of and is doing her best to contribute so that the world will be a better place for the future generations. Nobody is perfect and we are not to judge anybody for their faults but we can always set a good example for people to follow. That’s where Nabina Basnet’s role in the society comes into play. The Interview: Q. How was your life before MISS NEPAL USA different from now? Does media glare sometime distracts you from your purpose? -} Life before Miss Nepal USA wasn’t any different from what it is now. It’s always been the same but I do feel more responsible towards my society, and that is what people in the community expect from me. Well, the media glare has never distracted me from any kind of purpose rather I feel tremendously proud to be a winner. But, to be honest, I undoubtedly do enjoy all the perks for being a beauty queen (laughs). Q.Passion in life? One thing that you would love to accomplish in your life? -} I am very passionate about life itself. There isn’t only a sole aim that I want to accomplish. For me, you wake up to learn, achieve and share new ideas each day. I truly believe in living today and at the end of the day, I make sure I have learned one thing at least with the hope of beginning a new tomorrow. Thus, before I retire,(smiles) I will make sure I have laughed, loved, enjoyed, and learned enough from every moment that I have lived. Q. What makes you come alive? -} Music. It’s the soul of my life. I cannot imagine myself going a day without music, music speaks my heart. Q. Dreams? -} My dreams aren’t any different from any of you reading it at the moment, “I dream of a better tomorrow.” Q. Contributing to the society: I believe I have always supported our Nepalese community we all are part of, in whatsoever way possible. Apart from supporting the local events where I reside, I have been an active member of ANA(Association of Nepalese in America) earlier from the year 2010. Everyone is well aware of this biggest event that happens annually where it gives a platform to kids, youth, and old people where they gets a chance to showcase themselves or help the Nepali community to grow fonder. Soon going to be a former runner up of a very renowned title of Miss Nepal US(A) 2011, I will be working on Miss Nepal US(A) 2012 event as well as a brand ambassador plus as an organizing committee, to fill a space to an opportunity that girls over here don’t get often. Miss Nepal US(A) team will help them groom and make their dreams come true as I am sure, if not every, 9 out of 10 woman dreams of getting crowned as a beauty queen and, that’s precisely why events like ANA Convention and Miss Nepal US(A) are there, not only for girls to fulfill their dreams as a pageant winner but also to provide each generation to come contribute, be a part of our amazing community even living thousands mile away from our motherland. Q. Must for an Ideal Woman: -} Ideal woman should be three things: Elegant, Independent and one who holds a moral value. Q. Who inspires you the most? -} Creative, Hardworking and the people who stands up for themselves inspires me the most. Like Oprah Winfrey.Among few people that inspires her, one is Jessica Cox-an international keynote speaker. ”If Jessica can fly a plane with only her feet, what can you not do?” Q. On Fashion: -] The definition of fashion varies from people to people. Fashion for me, is all about having a positive outlook not only towards the way you fancy, but also on how you carry your gesture. A total fashionista with a horrible attitude could be a major turn off. Q.On Beauty: -] Confidence with a graceful smile is what makes any woman beautiful. Q. Words of Wisdom for struggling Gals in America: -} Nothing in life comes easy, the thing we pursue easy isn’t worthy, set goals to give you a balanced & successful life. Work hard. Always believe in yourself & Never give up! Q. Being in America: -} The language barrier was quite challenging for me when I first moved to States. Apart from that, I never had to struggle hard to opportune myself in an American culture. I strongly believe, if you are able to expedite yourself in any situation as an individual, origin, different culture or a tradition will never be an issue. Q. 10 tips for a better life: 1. Be the most ethical person you’ve ever known 2. Be thankful of all you have 3. Say no to distractions but follow your dreams 4. Expect the best but also be prepared for the worst 5. Never mistake work as a way of only making money, see it as a craft. 6. Simple living, high thinking 7. Have a vision of your life 8. In the process of growing old, never forget that your parents are growing old as well, Love and Respect your Mom and Dad. 9. Forgive those who have wronged you 10. Make your life matter.

“Well, most men have bound their eyes with one or another handkerchief, and attached themselves to some one of these communities of opinion. This conformity makes them not false in a few particulars, authors of a few lies, but false in all particulars. Their every truth is not quite true. Their two is not the real two, their four not the real four; so that every word they say chagrins us, and we know not where to begin to set them right” New newspapers, magazines, radios and other Medias seem to be multiplying in Nepalese community in America like mushrooms in the monsoon season. Similarly, there are a lot of people in our society who call themselves professional journalists but do not have a single idea about what it stands for. Journalism did not become respectable profession just for reporting the story or the profit it creates for those who run them but for the impact they have on our society. You would not be considered a good journalist just because you have been reporting for some years but for the positive impact you have created in the society utilizing the profession. Good journalism can create an impact in our society that will last for generations to come and can make the world a better place. On the other hand, bad and unprofessional journalism done for few bucks here and there is no different from the Robin Hood philosophy that robs Peter to feed Paul with stories and values that only make the society worse. The reason why Nepal is at the end of the cliff has a lot to do with these so called journalists who only cared about their selfish ends and orchestrated the raping of their own motherland. Well, it did not stop there, these people have moved out here in America and are trying to repeat the same story again by breaking all the core tenets of journalism and spreading propaganda that only lead people to the path of destruction through cheap papers and television set. People talk about business ethics, journalism ethics, medical ethics, law ethics but the fact is that we do not thousand different types of ethics. Either you have ethics or you do not. Either you are moral or you are not. Either you are a thief or you are not. Either you are a liar or you are not. God is not confused about that and neither should we. All people are not fools and when it comes to judging what is right and what is wrong, people are much smarter than demagogues imagine. Orchestrating a pretension of being a journalist while disrespecting or ignoring the principle under which it is founded is a sad story for that man for a man can cheat nobody but himself. The demagogues of Nepal fooled people for few years but disintegration of the foundation of their own party from within is occurring right in front of our eyes. The fact is only the truth shall persevere after so called heroes of our societies are decayed among the mud, snail and worms in their graves. If we shall prosper in any area of our life, we must follow the foundation and law of our own being. We are not here just by accident but by the divine plan for fulfillment of a particular purpose. The world is not disordered but operates under a definite plan without which everything would be chaos. The reason why Nepal is in turbulence is because its people and leaders did not follow the principles under which balanced life and wholesome societies are built. The reason why Nepalese journalism has not been able to establish its credibility in Nepal, America or any part of the world is because people involved are devoid of understanding of the tenets under which true journalism is built. If we shall be people of strong culture and values, we must come together and begin the construction of our society from the very foundation which includes family units, authors, teachers, journalists; lawyers etc. or we shall only be waiting for the destruction of our own society and values.
