Hi guys, I am on OPT right now (valid until the end of this year) and I am wondering how soon should I apply for extension. Is it 3 or 4 months before the expiration of the regular OPT? I would appreciate if you share your experience. Thanks Sparty Last edited: 19-Jun-12 08:30 PM

As far as i know, its 3 months before the expiration. Can you also check with your International Student Office regarding: what documents do they need? ( For ex- Employer Address, Everification code, Letter from your current Employer/Consultant etc) When is the right time to apply for OPT extension? ~GooDLuck

Thanks JantareI, nmc and rahulvai (dai). @nmc, I got some information from my Intl' student office, but they didn't give me time to apply so I asked here in sajha.  Here is the information that was given to me CHECKLIST FOR MAILING YOUR APPLICATION TO USCIS  PHOTOCOPY of pages 1 and 3 of your new I-20 endorsed for the 17-month OPT extension. (Do not send the original.) Make sure to sign and date your new I-20 before you make the photocopy. :  Completed I-765 form.  Completed G-1145 form.  Photocopy of the front and back of your current EAD card (also called OPT card).  Photocopy of your University diploma or official University transcript.  Photocopy of the front and back of your I-94 card.  Photocopy of the picture page / expiration date of your passport.  Two full frontal / passport-style photos (see attached example) taken within the past 30 days. Gently print your name and SEVIS ID number (located on the top right corner above the bar code on your I-20) on the back of the pictures.  $380.00 personal check, cashier’s check or money order made payable to: :Department of Homeland Security.” and here is the additional information you have to give to OISS  Provide OISS with your E-Verified employer’s name, complete address, your job title, supervisor’s name, and supervisor’s contact information.
