Advice About F1 visa and college transfer

Hi all, right now i am doing study in US university. i have 4 month i20 and less then 1 year F1 visa. after finish 4 month i wann stay in legal status. what should i do for it ? when i need to join new college? before visa or I20 expire ?? please if anybody familar on this case plz let me advice. .. thank you
