"I found out like everyone else the next morning." Devyani Rana the only missing link to the Royal Massacre that wiped out the Nepalese Royal Family agreed to do an exclusive interview with Sajha Onion. Although most of the survivors have been interviewed by the media, noone actually knows what kind of conversation took place between Dipendra and Devyani, noone knows what went on in the Prince's head before he started spraying bullets in his own family. Devyani has been keeping a low profile since that fateful night, after which she has been condemned to carry the tag of femme fatale. Onion: Thank you for granting the interview. What made you decide to come out after all these years? Devyani: It has been too long. Sigh.. There has been a lot of things said and unsaid about the whole episode and after all these years I felt that Nepalese people deserve to know what happened that night. Onion: Can you start by telling us how you met Dipendra? Devyani: When Dipu.. excuse me, I mean when Dipendra was studying in England, he had a classmate named Charles whose father was a Lord who became his local guardian. By sheer coincidence, I had also come to England for some course and happened to have the same guardian. Thus we met at a gathering at the guardians place. I never thought we would be a couple when I first met him but for some reason he became attracted to me and approached me. We were officially going out since 1991 in England. Onion: How was your relationship with him? Was it like a normal relationship? Devyani: I was brought up in a lavish household so I am not sure I would know what a normal relationship would be but there were always ups and down and lot of drama going on due to prestige issue of both sides concerned. He would hit his highs and lows and things would get weird. All in all he was a gentleman. We were madly in love and it was difficult to stay apart. Onion: The whole royal massacre is attributed to you to some extent. Can you shed some light on it? Devyani: We never talked about marriage but you know parents. All they want to do is worry about their own prestige and they try to meddle in their children's relationships. The Queen had wanted Dipendra to get married to Supriya Shah but Dipendra wanted to get married to me. Everytime the question of marriage came up in either household, there was a big fight. Once my mom unwittingly said that the royal family was poor since Dipendra only got Rs. 2.4 million in government allowance and my mom had already put in Rs. 50 million in a bank under my name. This was the turning point of the relationship because the then Queen became totally against our union. Onion: What happened on June 1, 2001? Devyani: The day started like any other day. There was no signs of what was going to happen that day. We met for lunch and everything was normal. The only thing that was a bit irregular was the moroccan hash that Dipendra claimed that he had come across. I knew he used to smoke marijuana once in a while but hash was a rare thing. In the evening, I had called him and he seemed very different. His speech was distorted so I asked him if he was inebriated and he mumbled smoking the hash. He would be full of energy at one time then lapse into silence. I could not understand it. I said I would come by but he said not to because they were having a family dinner. What must have happened is that he must have had a very bad trip from the hash he smoked. Sometimes drugs elevate moods and feelings and it must have bent his perception of reality and resulted in the massacre. I tried calling him all night but there was no answer. I found out like everyone else the next morning.

interesting thread topic but was disapoointed as it was from "the onion." Just to let everyone know, the onion news ( here sajha onion or simply onion) are not true and are pitched for satire. It's totally bogus.

I am disappointed with the skills of onion in this thread. It used to be way better. This is just flat unlike onion.
