I couldn't believe my ears when I first heard about Nepali women working as prostitutes in Australia about a year ago. Then I heard some miserable stories of women being 'used' by Indians, Pakistanis and even Nepalese in London and I always wondered why Nepali women were so eager to leave the country. I mean, a buddy was telling me the story of this girl living in his neighborhood with some different Nepali dude. They weren't in a relationship but the guy was allowing her to stay with him for free in return for sex. Perhaps I'm being a bit sensitive but that simply disgusted me. And thanks to the latest story of Nepali students being returned, some allegedly caught working as prostitues, generalizations are likely to follow. Perhaps, one could find the rationale in their choice but I struggle in my own efford. Selling your body for money, that too, when there was absolutely no need to, especially considering how one could attend a majority of colleges in Nepal for less than 10k for entire four years.

While I am certain about the news of Nepalese being deported, I am struggling to believe few of the women were actually involved in prostitution. And regarding credibility of the news, I am not so inclined to believe what My Sansar prints every now and then. Also let's not jump the gun or be too quick to establish the facts to judge what is wrong or right can we? Maybe their misery is beyond our comprehension that led them to do that. Unlike IT_keti on her post who was miserable of stealing, we haven't yet heard anyone griping about it yet. Rumors and such stories always puts us in an emotional high ride, but if we pause and reflect we could focus on other details that were unseen earlier, we might see it from a different perspective. For instance, a young girl from a rural Nepal whose family struggles to make their ends meet and have high aspiration towards her daughter, will do anything to alleviate their pain. And if it requires sleeping with others, then so be it. Now, If some rich girl who's been rolling in Mercedes all over ring road wants to sleep with someone for probably fun or even some Benjamins (or the queen liz in the case above), that could be despicable. BUT WAIT ! Let's ask ourselves - wouldn't we want to sleep with just any woman for a paltry sum? I am not sure about others but if I were not committed, heck I'd even do it for free. However, if they let gripe about being USED by Indians, Pakistanis, Aussie, Brit or even our Gorkhe dude, I find it absolutely inane. I prefer to be a human first than preach about ethics or rant about sexism. Last edited: 25-Oct-11 01:54 PM

Credibility of the stories aside, based on what I heard from my own friends (one happens to be friends with a DSP's daughter who's sleeping around for money in Australia) along with another 'poor' Nepali girl whose parents must've been so poor that they couldn't afford to educate her in Nepal, hence she was forced to go to London, who happens to be living with some guy solely for free rent (again, this isn't a rumor), I just can't find a rationale in their decisions. I'm not one of those who has double standards when it comes to "Only men can do this, women can't". We're born as equals and that's how it should be but as a man, I just can't accept a woman if she's willing to sleep around or for money - the same way I wouldn't accept a man over same reasons if I were a woman. Women being 'violated' ,'used' abroad are common occurences and I sincerely sympathize with those who've been victimized. Matter of fact, my blood boils when I hear stories of Nepali girls being sold in India, raped by Arabs in the Middle East, beaten, abused etc but man, there's absolutely no justification to a Nepali girl in London, Australia, US, Canada or any anywhere else for that matter to be sleeping around for money citing personal pleasure, or hell to meet her daily needs, college fees etc.
