We nepali have one wrong concept.  We think ACCENT = GOOD ENGLISH. In fact no american will judge your english proficiency with your accent. Good english is determined by good grammar, a range of vocabulary and correct use of langauge.

Communication has other aspects tied to it apart from the verbal part - like body language and what not! Our obsession with accent is crazy and slightly contradictory. I think being a Nepali, it's awesome to have a Nepali accent - those who give it up have lost a significant portion of their Nepaliness. Long live Nepali accent! Be proud if you have one.

Most nepali that I have met talks this way, unless they were born here or have been here more then 15 years. But in the flip side I know few people who have been here for more then 15 yrs who still speaks that way, may be because the don't interact with locals much and talk nepali at home all the time even when they meet their friends.
