As of now we only have Facebook group.I believe an website will start pretty soon. I will post Ashray's story and pay pal account for anyone who would like to help him Five years ago, I was constantly wondering where would I be in five years. There were infinite possibilities, and I was prepared for everything I had imagined might occur. Today, I look at myself and ask where did it all go wrong. This is something I hadn't thought of in dreams. January 2009, my senior year at BYU, I became one of those unfortunate news that people think would never happen to them. I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer after about two months of constant diarrhea and painful constipation. Since then, it's been about two and half years and I am still on the fight. The drama of going through treatments is horrendous. Chemo just sucked life out of me. And there were periods of pain after going through surgeries that still haunts my memories. Some surgeries took me months to recover; I couldn't walk, couldn't sleep well because my body was aching everywhere. I was almost like a vegetable, just lying in the bed constantly wondering if the next day was going to be any different. I saw my mother and father go through tremendous emotional turmoil. Everything was dark. I tried being as much optimistic as I could but at times I just felt hopeless and frustrated. Nothing much has changed today. I have already gone through three major surgeries and six weeks of chemo this in last six months. And pain is still a major part in daily proceedings. But, I feel delighted to have so many friends who care for me and am equally grateful to the church as well that has been supporting me in so many ways. There was a brief period of time when things improved miraculously. Pain was alievated and under control. And after about a year of continuous treatments, I started feeling better and even had enough energy to attend school. The PET scan came out clear and my doctor said there were no tumor visible at the moment. I attended fall 2010, and thought that my life might be getting back in track. But then again, my misfortune struck back. I started suffering from the symptoms which was threatening to be a recurrence of cancer-- and so it was. And now, I am back on the fight. I did have high aspirations-- thought that I would be able to make a difference but overall I expected my life would be simple, nothing like this. I have no history of cancer in my family; maternal or paternal, and out of the sudden "advanced cancer". It still surprises me when I think about it. The misfortune for me is that not only I am too young to have been diagnosed with advanced cancer but I am an international student shy of graduation which I just have been pushing further and further because of my medical circumstances. I know my future is uncertain. It's very difficult to keep fighting but giving up is even harder. I am frustrated with all that has happened, and all I can do is keep praying for things to get better. I have all sorts of problems in addition to just fighting for survival. I was fortunate enough to have scholarship to pay for tuition. And I had a good on-campus job that helped me meet rest of my needs. But currently, I am unable to return back to work and feel a huge financial pressure. Besides, being an international student and a foreign citizen hasn't helped either. I know my greatest achievement at BYU is to have known so many wonderful souls- friends that have been supportive throughout my journey so far. I don't know if I will ever be able to pay all the favors I have indebted from all of you, but I know it's just your nature to be so wonderful. I am very grateful for you all.
