Now, i want to file tax both for working under SS and student tax refund this year. This is my first time for student tax refund, i mean i have not done refunds in 2009, but i want to do this year for both the 2009 and 2010 year togethere. is it possible or not? if yes, how to do it; if no why? tips and suggestion are appreciated

Three things.. 1. No you cannot combine tax returns from multiple years. You have to file them separately. 2. Say for 2009 you were going to get a refund but you did not file. IRS does not care if you don't fill out a tax return if you are owed money. 3. It's never too late to file for taxes, though once you are past the April 15 deadline, you may have to pay penalty if you owed IRS any money. But if you did not owe IRS money and were actually getting a refund, I am not sure if there is any fine (better read 1040 instruction). Bottom line is you will have to file 2009 and 2010 returns separately. Last edited: 07-Feb-11 02:06 PM Last edited: 07-Feb-11 02:07 PM

Just file the Tax for 2010. Since you didn't work in 2009, you owe nothing to IRS. Now I am not sure, if you will get the Student Credit for 2009. But, believe me IRS is such a nice thing, that they will give you what they owe you, and They will get what you owe them. I didn't file tax in 2008 for fiscal year 2007, But when I filed in 2009 for fiscal year 2008, they added $ 800.00 to my refund since they owed me American Oppourtinity Credit (don't know the exact name) from year 2007. So I think just file the 2010 using some online site TurboTax or TaxAct, and it will guide you step by step.

You can amend and enjoy the education credit. only if you are not using 1040 NR ( i guess so).
