Let us please take some time to appreciate the work of our unsung hero Dr. Sanduk Ruit, "God of Sight" and aptly declare Dr. Ruit the Sajha Hero of 2010. If you are with me, please give a thumb's up to this post. Thank you Sajhaites. "An estimated 150,000 people in Nepal are blind because of cataracts, but at the same time, Nepal has one of the highest rates of curable blindness anywhere in the world. One doctor in particular has been making remarkable progress in treating cataracts - and setting the example for many other developing countries, where 90 per cent of the world's blind reside.Sanduk Ruit, the Nepalese surgeon some call the "God of Sight", has removed 100,000 cataracts over his 30-year career. As the surgeon's mobile eye camp received patients at a monastery in Dharding, hundreds of people, most of whom had never seen a doctor before, had travelled for days by bicycle, motorbike, bus and even on their relatives' backs to get an appointment."

He is one of  the greatest heros of our time!!!

Srijana 12 · Dec 9, 2010 10:46 AM

I  was following the discussion on the other thread, where people tried to portray one individual as a hero while his contribution is nothing, not even a bit close to  people like Dr Roit-who choose "Janmabhumi as a Karmabhumi" over fame and money. I am saddened by the fact that how we have become so materialistic that we are not being able to see the true contribution of a fellow Nepali who are working against all odds.No wonder this thread is not as active as that was!! What does  HERO mean to you friends? Ask yourself. Also, for those who think Nepali people are jealous of other's achievement, please open you eyes, and remember how we all  celebrated Mr.Koirala win as a CNN hero!   I do not think Nepali people are jealous of one's individual achievement, I think most of us  have grown wiser to judge weather that person has made significant contribution to our society or not, so as to make that individual an  inspiring figure or hero. People like Nirmala Gyawali, Uttam Sanjyal, Dr. Ruit, Mahabir Pun and many unknown individuals they are working in Nepal against all odds, for me you all are true HERO. People, like us who migrated to West , does not matter if we are working in World Bank or Gas Station, doing nothing significant for the country,  in a way we all are BIG TIME LOSERS! Hats off to you Dr.Ruit!

kanchu! · Dec 9, 2010 11:59 AM

Kanchu, I disagree with you!!!! You are blaming all of those who work in foreign countries.  Yes, he is doing a great job and even I am a big appreciator of him and his work but that doesn't mean he is right and rest of us are working in foreign are wrong!!!. If a person earn a money and spend for owns benefit, then yes that is wrong because he is helping himself only. But if a person earns some money and he is helping his family ( even a single person), he is doing something for his family. By combining those families creates a Nepal. You don't have to give a significant contribution to Nepal like he did, even a dollar can help Nepal.  He has knowledge and education and he wants to utilize it for mass benefit. It doesn't mean by helping lots of other people, he became SUPER DUPER HERO and We all are BIG TIME LOSERS VILLAIN. so open your eyes.  Again, yes he is indeed a hero not to the Nepal only but to whole humanity.  Cheers

Dr. Ruit, take a bow!!!

sajhababa · Dec 9, 2010 1:55 PM

It is interesting to note that some jerks are trying to use Dr Sanduk Ruit, who is one of the greatest nepali I have ever met, to diminish Dr Pukar Malla. Anyone can note that those who went to criticize Dr Pukar Malla for nothing came here to pay obligatory tribute to Dr Ruit. Not only Dr Ruit would have disapproved these jerks for using his name to diminish a fellow hardworking Nepali, but also he would have said that it is plain wrong to use an established figure to humiliate another rising and well meaning Nepali. There is no limit of how stupid some people could be.

Pire · Dec 9, 2010 3:11 PM

Pire, Somebody like you who compares "Srikhanda with Khurpako Bid" is reminding me a mirror!!! Thanks for your effort. I will see my face.

Srijana 12 · Dec 9, 2010 3:18 PM

Not worth my time to argue with you Pire !!!!

8848m · Dec 9, 2010 3:20 PM

Yes, 8848. That's why you come here and write.. What do you do, btw? Some manual job somewhere? What is your time worth? --- Sirjana, That's all you could come up with, huh?

Pire · Dec 9, 2010 3:56 PM

Why do we always have the urge to rank?  It is one's life. Altruism works for some people, doesn't for others. Even if you care about nothing else in the world but yourself, you could be smart. The smartness, regardless of anything else, in itself is worthy of admiration. And, then when someone posts some personal glory someone has achieved, we are quick to point out that this is not worthy of mentioning because there are other altruistic people out there, and this person hasn't demonstrated that. Let us compare smartness to be fair. We need to wait to compare other things, if it's comparing that concerns us the most. Otherwise, we should ourselves try to do something small from our sides - instead of comparing apples and oranges in this forum!
