Hi All, I need some advice I am graduating this December and I want to invite my parents and my brother. But the problem is that when I had applied for visa when coming here, I had submitted one of the forms mentioning that I was my parents' only child. (Folks there had suggested me to do so as they said it would increase my chance of getting the visa). I really want to invite my brother. So my questions are: i) Will the embassy pull out my record and use it against my brother's application? ii) Can some excuses be made? (like he had left the family and came back again :D not too convincing, something else?) iii) Will my brother's application somehow or the other affect my status right now? (I'm not gonna be punished, Am I?) Any suggestions from those who had similar situations or with some knowledge about these things ? Thanks in advance!

0) We are all lyers one way or the other. If you are 100% honest with the visa processing, not even 1% of Nepalis in US will make it here. i) Very likely ii) Don't be an ass. iii) Not very likely. Just a word of caution: If your brother is planning to use this opportunity to file asylum or something of that nature, that may impact your further visa invitations and your own visa application/extensions... Your further applications will most likely be met with USCIS commenting YoTaBhayanaNiSom.

The chances of him getting a visa are very slim. We're classified and treated as aliens who won't return back upon the completion of our studies. Hence, we're scrutinized heavily during our visa applications and in all fairness, the assumption is probably accurate too ( feel free to disagree ). Lying about one's siblings is a normal tradition. It really shouldn't be that big of a deal. I don't think they keep photocopies of everything you submitted but I might be wrong. But again, I reckon he's gotta have a very solid case to support his application.

Thanks YoTaBhayanaNiSom and Bidroh for your inputs, My brother has his own business and family back home and has no intentions of staying here. He just wants to see me graduating and see America once. So what do you guys think he should tell the counselors when they ask him the inevitable question? i.e. why he wasn't my brother when I had applied?

Doubt they're gonna ask him that question. He's gonna be dumbfounded - that's all I can say. I mean, when you applied for your visa and submitted the relationship verification certificate, I'm assuming it only had you, your dad and mom listed as family members. Maybe you could try saying you messed up and apparently, there are 4 members in the family but again, I don't think he's be asked that question. He's probably going to get asked to prove that he's got a solid reason to return back. What you're telling us on here might not suffice. I hope when you say, "my brother has his own business and family", he does indeed have a fantastic job that'd force him to commit himself to return back. Good luck.
