Need to follow following steps, Write an equation Take a first derivative Equate to zero and find the value r u sure ur tutor showed sweat on this one ?? or may be he just had hot Chinese food :P

i may be wrong but I think to maximize or minimize, the possible way is either derivative or linear programming. I could not find proper constraints for linear programming. I have forgotten many things about this method..But I believe in God not in religion....when I have the final answer, i am not worried about the path  :) Maximize: (500-10x) (26+x) where 26+x = number of trees x=12

Thanks khoikkhoik and V2001 , I had required equation of parabola(in x2 form) then I can do in my way ... f(N)=-10N2+760N  after getting this equation I solve like this vertex(N)= -b/2a               = -760/-2*10               = 38 ans (By the way, derivative is also another way but I have to solve by this method......)also V2001's idea is also great... anyway thanks for discussion ....... Comingsoon, As you said, derivative is NOT the another way. Your equation is derived from the derivative method
