Anyone from Texas, give me some information. I used to live in Texas then I moved to another state. My driver license expires on November, 2010. Would I be able to get the new driver license online and will I get it for 6 years or for one year. I heard they have new system rt now where foreigners get license for 1 year only and it is printed as temporary driver license. Thanks

You will get it for 6 years if you apply it online. I get (renewed) mine last month for 6 years. But one of my friend applied it in person, in Irving, TX and he got it for 1 year only. Just make sure that you applied it before it expired. Best of luck.

R u sure u got it last month for 6 years. How could you get when ur friend didn't. r u green card holder? or is it cause ur friend was a student only but not a green card holder? Also when i did research on that texas dps website it says foreigners need to have proof of status and will get only for 1 year. Last edited: 01-Jun-10 07:49 PM Last edited: 01-Jun-10 08:50 PM

If you have SS on file with DPS and you apply online, no need of proof of status required coz they assume you as a US citizen because of your assigned SS number.

But if the same person walks in to the DPS office he will get a one year license. So there is an advantage to those who have a SS number and already a valid Texas driver's license. DPS can never have access to the status of individuals on the basis of SS number because the homeland security will never share its databases to any other government agency. They believe it is their hard earned database over many years which they will not easily give it to anybody else. They believe if DPS needs information, collect yourself, hahaha funny but it is the reality. Many agencies have sued DHS for not letting information available, but all lost. DHS is very powerful with all the revenue collected under SS number which do not match with the names. So, basically SS administration is earning taxes from people who do not exist officially,
