I have a unique H1 situation. My lawyer says he has already sent all the paperwork but hasn't received the confirmation yet. I applied around the third week of April as I work for a non profit organization, which can apply H1 around the year. When I ask my lawyer he says it is taking so long because we didn't apply on April 1. Is anyone in the similar situation or know somebody who has been int his kind of situation? Thanks.

Even my company didn't apply at 1st of April, i have already received my conformation number. When ever your document reaches at USCIS, they will give u a conformation number with which you can see your case status online. you lawyer might be lying to you.

hey catwoman, be careful. when you said the lawyer hasn't heard back from the uscis yet, i thought it was another story of a consultancy lying to its consultant, once again. but this is a ngo twist. i don't want to dash your hopes, but from whatever little i understand there are certain ngos that the uscis recognizes and others which it won't when evaluated in terms of whether they can sponsor h-1. so you might want to check that one out. for example, last time i checked, the ngo had to be involved in a higher education or research, not just a simple, say nepali-translating two-table cabin labelled "timbucktoo refugee services" ngo! even if you are filing from a low-profile ngo, make sure your paperwork shows some uniquely important reasons to get you an h1. good luck.
