one of my friend who is in status renewed his licence in IL. I dont know if he was required or showed i20 even though he had one. but the interesting thing is that they put the expiration date based on his nepali passport expiration.

People from Texas I know renewed their Licences about a year ago without any problems, If you have Social Security No, registered on your licence form you can also renew online. Just go to related  RMV website and renew online. People i know actually went to RMV and they have been here illegally for some time without SS registered.  Hopefully this works out for you.If it doesn't work out just move to cities like Boston or NY which dont need cars.
