Although first cousin marriages seem incest, some ethnic groups practice it as their “Gotras” are different. “Gotra” means clan which broadly refers to people who are descendants in an unbroken male line from a common male ancestor. Call it male chauvinism or sexual discrimination, the Gotra is inherited from a Father. The mother’s Gotra is simply ignored. In short, Boy belongs to Clan ‘A’ while the girl belongs to clan ‘B’. Since they are from different clans their marriage is approved. It’s true that the children of first-cousin marriages have an increased risk of genetic disorders. Inbreeding can make children more susceptible to infectious diseases. But it is ironic that the man who gave rise to the importance of genetics in natural selection; Charles Darwin chose to marry his first cousin. Well Darwin wasn't alone in this - Einstein also married his cousin. Let’s not post words of hatred against racial groups, just because what they practice is a Taboo for you. Apart from gurungs, the thakuris also allowed the first cousin marriage. I'm a thakuri and I'm allowed to marry my mama ko chori as long as we both and our parents agreed for the marriage. Unfortunately my mama doesn't have a daughter :-P

Even if you are allowed to marry your first cousin because of your culture, you shouldn't do that as it brings genetic imbalance and most of the times the child born will be mentally unfit.

In the US, you can actually have a relationship with your cousin. it might depend upon your belief( Catholic, protestant, Methodist etc). Even in India, in some culture you can marry your mummy pattiko hajurba ko natiniharu and your own uncle's daughter(being your cousin). In Nepal as well there are lama, limbu, rai communities where you can marry your phupu and mama's daughter, they are called as ashyaang, i believe. aba kuro aayo tapaiko. bolld relation chaina bhane i would say go ahead and live your life man. incest and taboo bhanya ta man made shit nai ho. ghar pariwar lie thaa dine ki nai its up to you but yei world ma kati places ma cousin cousin bihe hunxa, kati thau ma hunna. which means it dont make no difference. love her and live with her dude.
