Footwear store in Geneva uses Buddha statue to hang shoes 26 Jun 2009, 0009 hrs IST, Pranava K Chaudhary, TNN PATNA: Sight-seeing in Switzerland does not leave a vacationer horrified, but Patna's Prabhat Choudhary, his wife and daughter were shocked to see a Buddha's statue at a footwear store in Geneva. (TOI Photo) Lord Buddha statue garlanded with a pair of shoes at a footwear shop in Geneva. "We were strolling on shopping street when my 15-year-old daughter insisted that we got into 'Anne Fontaine', a designer footwear shop. There in the shop, we saw a 4-ft statue of Lord Buddha on the shelf displaying shoes and slippers, garlanded with a pair of shoes," Prabhat, a realtor, recalled. The family was shocked. Prabhat's daughter, was furious. Though her parents were a bit frightened, she persuaded them to let her shoot the sight with her videocam. The girl, a student of Patna's prestigious Notre Dame Academy, accomplished her mission without anyone - the shop staff or the crowd of customers - knowing about it. Back home, Prabhat has sent a letter to the ministry of external affairs, requesting it to take up the matter with Swiss authorities. var zz=0;var sldsh=0; var bellyaddiv = ' ';sldsh=1; var stindex=100; var stp=150; var taglen=0; var tmp; var tagcheck = new Array("div","span","br","font","a"); var storycontent = document.getElementById("storydiv").innerHTML; var firstpara = storycontent.substring(0,storycontent.toLowerCase().indexOf(" ")).toLowerCase(); function findptt(cnt){ zz++; if(zz == 10)return; var xxx=-1,yyy=-1; var ccnt = cnt; for(ii=0; ii "); if(yyy != -1){ taglen += yyy; stp = stp + yyy; yyy+=1; } break; taglen = taglen + tagcheck[ii].length + 3; } } if(xxx == -1 || xxx >= 150){ return; }else{ var tmp2 = ccnt.substring(0,xxx); tmp2 += ccnt.substring((yyy+xxx),ccnt.length); findptt(tmp2); } }findptt(firstpara); if(firstpara.length ")){ }else{ tmpminus = tmpcon.length - tmpcon.lastIndexOf(" var imgid = '4703419'; var capt = 'Buddha\'s statue at a footwear store in Geneva. Whoever burns tyre on this issue is an idiot. Its like those Idiot Muslims demonstrating for cartoon about their prophet. How they didn't realise that they made a joke out of themselves and their intolerant religion. If this so called Prabhat and her daugther studying in Notre Dame were intelligent enough they would have solemnly asked the shop manager to remove the fitting from the statue and expressed their feelings about what they saw. I am 99% sure that the manager would have complied to their request. That what differentiates West from ever self-destructing East (i.e burning tyres in the streets of Kathmandu for something that happened in Geneva). Surely they wouldn't put up a statue of Buddha in their shop if they did not revere him. He just didn't realise that it is a disrespect in Eastern society to do something like this and also surely Switzerland is not East. People don't burn tyre in the West if an Eastern leader burps in a dinner party even though it is a sign of disrespect in the West and a sign of having thoroughly enjoyed the meal in the East. Time to Grow UP deshbhakatanepali. Do you want to be a moron like those Muslims demonstrating?
