CA committee proposes compulsory military training to all adult citizens A CA subcommittee under the National Interest Preservation Committee has proposed for compulsory military training to all adult Nepali citizens, Kantipur daily reported. The subcommittee headed by UML lawmaker Rabindra Adhikari on Monday finalised a concept paper on National Security and Nepal Army with a provision of compulsory military training and service for two years to all citizens above 18 years of age. The concept paper, however, has proposed exemptions from military training to those not interested in the training due to religious or faith related reasons. They will be employed in alternative service to the nation, according to the concept paper. Such provision would address the issue of social inclusion being raised by various ethnic communities and also enable the state to mobilize all citizens for national security when need arises. We can create a small professional army equipped with modern infrastructure and technology after we introduce a provision for compulsory military training and service, reads the report.
