SC turns down Govt call cancel stay on NA generals Kantipur Report KATHMANDU, May 10 - Rejecting the government call to vacate its stay order, the Supreme Court (SC) on Sunday gave continuity to its earlier interim order staying the retirement of the eight Nepal Army (NA) Brigadier Generals. A joint bench of the Justices Anup Raj Sharma and Prem Sharma said that defendants failed to furnish bases for rejecting the recommendation made by the Army Headquarters to extend the terms of eights NA generals. Earlier, the Defence Ministry had filed a writ at SC demanding to scrap the interim order that stayed the government decision to retire eight NA generals. The government on March had given retirement to the eight NA generals, quashing the recommendations made by the NA to extend their terms. On March 24, the eight brigadier generals moved the Supreme Court challenging the government decision to pension them off.

Clarify confusion by video: UNMIN to Maoists Kantipur Report KATHMANDU, May 10 - United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) chief Karen Landgren told senior Maoist leader Dr. Baburam Bhattarai on Sunday that the Unified CPN (Maoist) should clarify the confusion created by the recently publicised video to the international community. In the video that was shot in Januarya, 2008, before the Constituent Assembly elections, Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal is seen babbling out that the number of Maoist combatants was inflated during the UNMIN verification. In the meeting at Dr. Bhattarai’s official residence in Pulchowk today, Landgren said that the international community as well as UNMIN is concerned about the controversial video tape in which Dahal says that the party leadership shrewdly made up the number of Maoist combatants from 7,000 to 35,000, and got 21,000 of the recognised by UNMIN. She also discussed the Nepali Congress demands of re-verification of the Maoist People’s Liberation Army in the wake of the release of the video. Saying the video has no relevance at present, Dr. Bhattarai, in response, stated that the issue of re-verification is insignificant and impossible. In the meeting, the Maoist think tank expressed the party’s commitment to the peace process though the Maoists pulled out from the government. Posted on: 2009-05-10 07:58:37 (Server Time)

What is Maoist upto? They are against Journalist, Supreme Court, Nepal Army and everyone else. People have responded well by rejecting and opposing their every move. I believe it will be so much better if they join the government of UML, NC and MJF just like when they first did. But I am not sure if that will happen, may be just a distant dream.
