Hi guys I need your help very badly. I want to go home during fall semester ( taking a semester off). BUt when i told my advisor about it, then he sayd that its not possible. And if i go then i need to re-appy for visa and re-admisson process. I know its possible to go home. I just dont understand why he said these stuffs Probably coz he is a new advisor. Can you guys suggest me any words that i can talk with my advisor so that i can go home.  I also found that if we stay out of the country for 5 months then only we need to re-apply for admission and stuffs. My visa has not expired. I can only afford to go home taking a semester of. Help me.

If you go home after a semester break, you will be out of status, so you will need to get a new i20, pay the new SEVIS fee of $200, apply for the visa again, and pay the money for the visa again. Your current visa does not matter, but it might help you look more credible in the embassy. The 5 month thing doesn't count.
