Minister Yadav issues 'death threat' against journo Further corroborating the fact that violence has become a reality in Nepalis politics, a minister in the current care-taker government allegedly issued death threats against a journalist for a report he filed for a news channel and even ordered activists to attack him. Renu Kumari Yadav (File Photo) Minister for Education Renu Kumari Yadav, who is a central leader of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF), is said to have dropped to the level of a criminal after Saptari district correspondent of Avenues Television Baidha Nath Yadav filed a news about teachers associated with MJF smearing soot over the district education officer's face protesting the latter's decisions. Furious over the news item, Minister Yadav reportedly telephoned the Avenues TV journalist at 1 am Wednesday night from her Ministerial quarters at Pulchowk and issued him the death threats. Reports also said that under her direction, MJF cadres attacked journalist Yadav Thursday morning and even vandalised his home. Fearing for his life, journalist Yadav is currently taking shelter at the Sagarmatha Zonal Police Office in Rajbiraj. Federation of Nepalis Journalists (FNJ) has condemned Minister Yadav's death threats to the journalist over the broadcast of the news item. "It is highly regrettable for someone like Education Minister to issue such threats to a journalist," FNJ's Avenues Television desk said in a statement, and demanded action against MJF cadres who attacked journalist Yadav. However, MJF leader B.P Yadav has denied that the attack on the journalist was carried out on the direction of the Education Minister. Many leaders and activists of MJF were implicated for murdering dozens of Maoist activists in what is called Gaur carnage when the party led the Madhesi movement in 2007 which catapulted the party to the forefront of national politics as a Madhesh centric party. The Maoist-led government that was formed with the support of MJF subsequently waived the charges later.
