Audience were blown away by the music that was performed by a single person in the fund raising campaign organized by ‘Maya Nepal’. Dipesh Thapa from an Australian Band‘Thatchworkcity’ alone made the event phenomenal with the performances of the songs from their albums like ‘Bequeath threshold’, ‘Ver 2.1’ and ‘Forest Forward’. Dipesh, 32 years old Nepali, is the front man of the Australian Band that has performed thousands of shows and won millions of heart. The system that he used to give 1 man band effect was what everone was talking about and when asked about the mechanism, he informed about the looping system where different sounds could be recorded and playback over desired times. The layering channels were increased up so as to build the music for longer time and played live guitaring with psychedelic vocal effects after the superimposition. When asked about his plan of returning his homeland to furnish the industry with his kind of music, he answered, ’I have really been bewitched after meeting my old family members and friends. My music has been enormously inclined by Australian tradition but I want to familiarize with Nepali culture to come up with Nepali songs.’ Dipesh came to Nepal after 12 years, postponing his return ticket twice and stayed in Nepal for 5 weeks to attend his sister’s marriage. Dipesh was born in Kathmandu in 1977 and spent his childhood in Brunei as he  moved there with his parents. After finishing his schooling from St Paul’s School, Darjeeling and Manipal (Architecture), he went to Brisbane for Masters in Digital Design. With the love for drawing, painting, sculpturing and singing since 5 years of age, he started his musical initiation with a membership of the school choir and sung at Soprano, Tenor and Alto scales over the years that led to have his first band ‘Apocryphal Apostles’ with Khanyang Imlong. Having experienced with different genres like folk, electronic, grunge, latin, ethnic Indian/middle eastern, funk, pop, trance, electronic, ethnic with ‘Haze’ and other bands around Manipal and Goa, he further moved to Brisbane where he thought of settling finally. In March 2007, he formed a group ‘Dpeshe’ with David and drummer Sandra Kuzman. Remi Forcet, Bassist Phillip Waller and back-vocalist Samar Afuni, Cellist Kathy Baker and new drummer Evan Buck with Alex Cruz joined the band in following few months to form ‘Thatchworkcity’. Since then, they have been experimenting with fusion of different genres and have played out at open-mic venues, charity shows self-help asylums, house & birthday parties, small bars, cafes & restaurants. With their sonic synergy, the band earned popularity in the ploaces like  Seoul, Istanbul, Budapest, Prague, Warsaw & Berlin (an independent part-band tour). Now we all can't wait to see Dipesh and his group creating some magic with Nepali music, as our music has a lot to offer to the world.   Last edited: 25-Mar-09 07:58 PM
