Hi, I was wondering if a TV bought in the US can be used in Nepal with little or no hassle? I found a vizio that works at 220-240V, but for many other TVs, I may need a voltage-converter from (110-120 V) to (220-240 V). I was doing more research and found that US TV are built for NTSC signals where as many of Asian countries use PAL. I couldn't figure out what is used in Nepal. Is there any out there who have bought TV in the US and took it to Nepal. If so, please share the experience and/or suggestions. Thanks in advance for your time and effort.

Good idea, but you may have to pay extra charges if the size and weight are higher than the specific Airlines allows in that case, you need to do your math work, I mean cost benefit analysis. Cost of the Vizio + additional airfare (cargo)+ converter (if needed)+ Voltage Stabilizer + any custom fee (applicable)= is worth it or not???? Your decision is final. In past people used to bring TV , Now it is sleek, sexy and flat, why not????????

Full_Maya seriously dahling why should you bring tv from usa. nepal have all the shops specializing in tv. we have sony. you know sony in case you do not know what sony is. Sony is the biggest electronics company in the world. And most importantly it's not American. Sony is from Japan. Therfore sony products are the best in the world. So i do not know what brands of tv you guys used there but in nepal many people are into J-product. Therefore my dahling you see it's no point bring american tv. firstly you have to pay taxes at the airport. secondly i do not know if the tv from usa will work here in nepal due to differences electircity volts. thirdly i don't think there is any shops that can repair usa tv if there is some problems. you know usa motto regarding its products is buy, use and throw. so that more consumers will spend on products. therefore i have categorize americans products as Average-(A) product. A-products are simply NOT repairable. It's just use and throw, buy new one! as for J-products, it is simply awesome. j-motto is buy, use, use, and use again. if problem occurs, no problem, can repair and used again. Therefore quality and durability's perceives with J-products. Therfore NewTrader dahling just come home, bring lots of cash$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and invest in Nepal. Therefore you have a good tv while helping Nepal economics too. that's my POINT! luv, skh

You have to pay 200% custom tax on it cost of tv: $1000 tax: $2000 shipping: $200 total cost: $3200 (not worth it)

I believe I was asking information on technical issues not whether it is worth it or not. Anyways thanks to people who invested at least some time to answer the thread. I would really like to know the technical sides.

I hope few 'right' persons will read it and least one 'knowledgeable' person will advise me.

Don't take it - Nepal uses PAL system while most of the TVs here only support NTSC...you can still view local channels, but will have to buy a external converter...the quality may not be good.

बाबु तिमीले सिल्पट कुरा गरौ अन्त्य मा आएर। Technically any alteration can be done, you will not get that in your USA. सिल्पट कुरा, Bring it NO problemo.
