Ok here's the thing: lost my passport, got a new copy from the embassy but no longer have a VISA on it. I know that my I-20 keeps me in legal status as a student but somewhere down the road i will eventually need it while transfering to a university or if i wanna go out of the country...what do i do?? anyone???

if you have the valid visa in your old passport then just present the old passport for the visa purpose and present the new passport for the validity.

Do you have the I-94? If not file I-102 Form with USCIS.

Thanks for the feedback guys, but let me clarify a few things.. Yeah i do have my I-94 and No i don't have my old passport. The original passport that the VISA was stamped on got lost. So I applied for a new one@ the DC embassy...after a long wait..eventually got it.... Now i have a Passport that has no American Visa on it...I know not having the Visa doesn't affect my legality but I just wanna know what my options are to get a new VISA stamped on it...that's all ...thanks again.

i had lost my passport too about two years ago...i applied for a new one...after i got the new passport someone turned in my old one...yeah...but in your case as long as you have the copies of your old visa then you are fine...but i don't know...you should talk to someone at the embassy...

Ususally, immediately after your arrival to college, International Office makes all the copies of your documents. Just with them.
