This is really unfortunate I agree. Luckily not all ask this question but most do. I get irritated and tell them I am a Bishwokarma just to see their reaction. We carry baggage from the old country to the new unfortunately.

Met this guy in a wedding in Baltimore recently. I was minding my own business when he was going around introducing himself to more than 100 people excluding kids. I mean people do that - nothing wrong with it but when he came to me and my wife he asked my last name, I was already annoyed but couldn't help and tell him what it was. I am Brahmin. He was brahmin too. My wife is Newar. He said "ये.....इण्टरकास्ट पो गर्नु भएको?" And before I could say anything wife pulled me away. This guy must be in his forties so I cannot even blame his kids that they didn't teach him better. Another incident, my wife's fufu, who is almost 70 year old, came to live with us. She is from Indrachowk area, she speaks Nepali very well, but doesn't talk to me, avoids me like a plague, looks at me with disgust and speaks with my wife in Newari even when I am around. I gave her software programmer daughter, who lives, of all places, in New York City - a fifteen minute earful, the broad must have almost cried but I bet on my life she didn't sit down with her bigoted mother to clear air and teach her better.  We south asians are one of the biggest racist fucks, but we pretend as if our prosperity draws no parallel. Agreed, whom to blame ? Even in this 21st century people are believing on "Q" "Pizza gate" and so on. Every religious Pandit has taken advantage of their simplicity and illiteracy. They are the one who poured the juice of racism in our vain. Education is gives us knowledge not wisdom therefore do not expect the racism in their / our vain will go away but it is rooting deep in our vain to brain.

I am proud "Bika" and I don't mind people asking my caste name as long as there intention looks good. Talking about racism we all carry on our part. Did we forget those days when we call other "h@psi" and "K^ire" for people coming to visiting our nation? Or judging white people as if carry cash to burn. I assume this is till a thing in Tourism Industry in Nepal. No, wonder why even white people loves visiting Nepal is probably due to presence of Nepali "K^uire" worshipping colonial mentality. So , basically racism became good thing back home as well. I generally looks who is talking about racism you know what the irony is your name "Dh*ti" sound more like rude for many people. It is same with Black American people they consider themselves victim of some racism when they are also responsible for hating us. I had been teased a lot of time by these black women for wearing "Kurtha surwal" and told to returned back to my home country. Beside that I personally believes Heightism is serious form of discrimination instead of racism.

@kavre if u r truly a proud BK, show that u really mean it. marry another BK or so called lower castes than urs, like pariyar. but u wont. given a choice, between a really good BK, and a worse so called upper castes, u will choose so called upper castes. i have seen so many really smart/educated/beautiful lower caste people marry horrible (old/ugly/dumb) upper caste people. unltil lower caste people learn to respect their own castes, this caste discrimination will remain in our society.
