We live in a very fast pace world where we are busy working most of the time. Modern day lifestyle has many benefits yet it has created a lot of stress & strain in many people lives. Many people are not satisfied with their current situation and they struggle day and night to change their lives. They go to work but their mind is somewhere else. This is not a ideal situation for a happy, prosperous life. When you are not happy, it not only affects you but it affects everybody who comes in contact with you. Therefore, it is important that we understand a peaceful mind is necessary for a happy life. Many people do their day to day "Karma" to fulfill their material desires. They go to work because they have obligations towards their spouse and children. Even if they do not enjoy their work, they do not have options not to do their actions. Lord Krishna in Bhagavad Geeta has said that you need not give up your karma to experience higher bliss. But, you can always convert your day to day karma to karma yoga. To convert karma into karma yoga, you need to have right attitude and an understanding of why one should be doing karma yoga. Karma yoga is a form of sadhana which has two components - 1) Let my work be an offering to the lord: When you offer your day to day karma to the almighty lord, work does not become stressful. It becomes a puja. When you offer your karma to the god, you will want to put all your effort in making that karma 100 percent good. You do not want to offer to lord something that is done half-heartedly. In Sanskrit, this practice is called "Isvar Arpana." In other words, I offer all my work to the lord. When you do this, your work becomes a "Yagna." 2) Prasad Bhavana: Your Karmas will produce certain result in near future. That result could be a positive result or a negative result. However, the second component of Karma Yoga teaches us that we should welcome any consequences of our actions as "Prasad" from the lord. In other words, I accept whatever the result of my actions be. Doing karma is our choice, but its results are not in our control. There are various factors that affects the result. Therefore, I accept this result as "Prasad" from the lord. When our mind starts engaging in Prasad Bhavana, all the stress associated with the actions we perform goes away and we will experience peace. Karma Yoga presupposes that you have faith in God. Otherwise, you cannot perform Karma Yoga. Karma Yoga will gradually purify your mind and will prepare your mind to enter Gyana Yoga and attain Moksha. ~ May you all find that peace which is beyond one's understanding.
