A yogi's son one day thought what's the point of living this mundane life doing same thing over and over again. He approached his enlightened father and asked - "Oh holy father, you know everything. I am sick of this Samsara. I want to lead a path of enlightenment. Please guide me on how to gain liberation from this Samsara and attain supreme peace." His father replied - "Renounce everything." Having heard this from his father, he renounced his hermitage and went over to the jungle for living a sanyasi life. After living a sanyasi life for quite a while, he realized, his mind is not at peace. He approached his father again and asked - "Dear father, as per you instruction, I renounced everything and started living a sanyasi life for quite a while now, but my mind is more agitated and is not at peace. For sure I am missing something. His father replied - "Renounce everything." Hearing this from his father, he threw his yellow robe and kamandalu and went to forest naked for strict ascetic life. He practiced various rituals and lived a ascetic life for a while in that forest. After a while, he again realized, his mind is not at peace. He approached his enlightened father again and asked - "Oh holy father, I have renounced everything, yet my mind is not at peace. Pray, tell me what I am missing from your instruction." His father replied - "Renounce everything." He got perplexed by the same instruction from his father. He asked -"Father, I have renounced everything. There is nothing left for me renounce. Please tell me what is it that is still left for me to renounce. His father replied - "Renounce your mind." Hearing this, he asked again - "Please tell me what is this mind." His father replied - "Enlightened yogis have declared that this mind is the "I" within you. Renounce this "I" which is the ego-sense and rest in peace."
