They have something called prepaid credit card, where you put your money down and use it as credit card. It will build your credit history. Before you apply for prepaid credit card go to your bank and say you want to apply for credit card. They will apply one for you, if they don't approve you one, they usually will offer you a prepaid credit card. If you search on youtube you can get lot of information.

Have a social security number Get a phone number under your name Get an internet connection to your house in your name Get electricity for your house in your name Get an apartment in your name Keep making payments to all the utilities and apartment costs monthly. Have a checking/saving account in bank where you deposit whatever money you earn via check Wait for 6 months, apply for credit card with banks like citi, discover, bank of america. You necessarily do not need prepaid credit card (also known as secured credit card) to get post paid credit card (also known as unsecured credit card). Note: Based on my own personal experience. That is how I got my credit cards.

when i first got my credit card, i had nothing in my name like apartment or utilities. Wells fargo gave me a credit card for $500, but it was not a prepaid card. I build up from there.

Local credit union may offer student credit cards with very low credit limit of $500. Probably you need to open a checking account with them first. GTFCU.org used to ask for proof of enrollment, SS card copy, license and one more id (passport with F-1 visa) and nothing else. Try other credit unions if you are outside TX. Good luck!
