When our work becomes puja, this world becomes a leela (sport). Worldly activities will no longer drag us and make us depress. We may be engaged in activities day and night, but within, we remain as cool as ice! This is the secret of karma yoga. One who knows the secret of karma yoga crosses this ocean of samsara. Karma yoga purifies our mind and makes us eligible for jyan yoga. There is no direct short-cut to jyan yoga. Everybody must go through karma yoga in this life or many lives beyond (who knows how many lives!). When people follow karma yoga, it harmonizes our society, it creates balance in our ecosystem, as karma yoga must be done understanding what human dharma is. Karma yoga is defined as performing proper action with right attitude of mind without violating dharma. Here dharma is not defined as particular religion but is understood as 'proper duty'. For example, polluting environment is a big no no per karma yoga because pollution imbalances our ecosystem. If we don't respect nature, why should nature respect us? Creation is the result of total knowledge, which is in harmony with natural laws. With human greed, this harmony is in imbalance in our so called modern society. Karma yoga will take us beyond greed where our actions will benefit entire humanity. Some Vedic mantra clearly mentions this high state of mind: sarvesam swastir vawatu, sarvesam santir vawatu, sarvesam mangalam vawatu! What a beautiful state of mind! Karma is classified mainly into three categories: Sattvic karma, Rajasic karma, and Tamasic karma. Always aspire for sattvic karma. Sattvic karma puries mind and prepares mind for higher spiritual knowledge. Life is struggle only in the state of ignorance. When right knowledge dawns, the same life becomes absolute bliss. May you all experience the nectar of that infinite bliss. Om
