Yesterday Trump said he will only allow sponsoring spouses and children. Does that mean naturalized citizens are not allowed to sponsor parents and their brothers and sisters? Is this a new law or something that needs to be passed?

Trump doesn't make laws. He would like it to be what he mentioned but Congress has to implement and pass laws. I don't think family based legal immigration cuts in the pipeline.

I guess he (or his advisors) did not realize that one already needs to be a US CITZ under current rules in order to be able to sponsor those family members. Plus they get free medcaid and as you all know how expensive healthcare is in the states. Why am I gonna pay for someone else’s babysitters’ healthcare cost? I kinda like this decision.

Gwachaquarian - Perhaps he meant people from third world countries. I don't think that he wants to restrict immigration from western Europe, Canada, or Australia/Newzealand.

pepsi, do you even how how hard is to qualify for medicaid or medicare? just because you are in green card doesn't qualify for medicaid or medicare. Most of the people that I know doesn't qualify because you need to work for certain hours for certain years in order to qualify.

I don’t know about other states but in NY, anyone can apply for amd get medicaid if they don’t earn minimum yearly expense. Even asylum applicants. If you don’t make minimum wage per year, you will get medicaid. I have seen and known many people who call their parents and once they have green card, apply for medicaid and enjoy all the health benefits for free.
