I heard that we can drive 6 month using Nepal's DL. is that true? Do I need to do anything for that? My cousin just visited from Nepal and he lives in TX. He has valid DL from Nepal. Can someone shed some light on this please

Driving Privilege Reciprocity Driving privilege reciprocity allows a person to use a valid, unexpired foreign license to operate a motor vehicle in Texas for up to one year or until a person becomes a Texas resident, whichever date is sooner. Once a person becomes a new Texas resident, they must apply for a Texas license within 90 days to continue to drive legally. For more information, please review the Moving to Texas page. So in simple terms, one cannot drive in Texas with Nepal's license as Nepal is not a member of the international agreement. Last edited: 20-Aug-16 08:06 AM

I have heard similar things from other people too. But I have always wondered how the heck does it work. When I came here I used to had my old laminated driver's license that anyone could have made. And there is no way to even verify if that is fake license, even in Nepal. I have heard similar stories of people going to Nepal and using DLs from US and other countries to drive there. How can it be verified whether it's a driver's license or sth else..for instance let's say it is from one of those eastern european countries (not english speaking countries? Is it even possible to differentiate a photo ID of some sort from DL if it's not in english? Plus,,will the घुस्या ट्राफिक प्रहरी in Nepal even try to understand that one is a bearer of DL from some other country if ever get caught in situations where they can reap $$$? Plus driving is so different in Nepal compared to other places..I feel puzzled.. Some info from those experienced in this matter can definitely be appreciated..
