I cannot ping the VM installed in a pc from another pc. I installed a vmware in windows environment. I then installed a linux VM in which I have installed an application. I can ping the IP of linux VM from the pc where the VM is installed but I cannot ping the same from another PC. how would I troubleshoot this issue?

Research NAT vs. Bridge Connections

Change your network connections to bridged in VM settings.

maxpayne · Aug 10, 2016 6:53 PM

Yes you will need to bridge those connections. I think VMware does not does not put the guest machines in the same network natively and right fully so because you want to isolate the guest as much as possible. To fix the issue you can either change the network adapter type or like others suggested go to you host machines network properties and bridge those networks together. Read about network / bridges / switches to learn more on what they do.

bridge option has not worked and trying to see other option

यदि एउटै नेटवर्क मा छन् भने router चाहिदैन, switch भए मा पनि communication हुन्छ ! bridge connection or/and NAT are different concepts which are used for different purpose. Also, default gateway and subnet mask plays a vital role. Subnet mask determines which network you would be in and gateway does something similar since it is the gate for all your traffic (even ping) to go through and come to your computer as well. Another important thing to consider is firewall. Even if two computers are in the same network in the same switch, with same subnet mask and default gateway, but iCMP traffic is blocked by firewall, then, you cannot receive ping reply. Again, firewall is implemented on Operating System level as well as Network level. It is unclear which environment your computers are in. Please explain. And also, please look the basic concepts of hub, switch, router, Subnet mask, Default Gateway and firewall... also good to know about dns and dhcp and you should get most of your answers.
