@microbiology, Then please do enlighten me what is Indigenous then? This is the lame definition of "Indigenous Peoples" of Nepal - • First settlers prior to the formation of Gorkha and Nepal state. • Dominated group and no representation in state organs • Not included in the Hindu caste system. • Own language, culture and religion different from the rulers. Note: Brahmins, Chhettris and Madeshi Brahmins are not Indigenous people of Nepal. So this obtuse definition is inherently meant to exclude Bahun-Chhetris and put everyone else on the other side. According to that definition, Madhesi Brahmins are not indigenous, but what about non-Brahmin Madhesi castes like Kayastha or Rajput or Rauniyar or Kalwar? Do they become Indigenous? Also, Newar community is not a single ethnic group like Magar, Gurung, Tamang, Rai, Limbu, Sherpa, etc. How are Newars treated a ONE single ethnic/caste group? Plus, Newars fall under Hindu caste system as they have castes ranging from Brahmins down to 'Untouchables'. Also, in what world do you live in when you say Newars are "dominated group and no representation in state organs". Newars are among the highest income earners of the country, their culture is basically Nepal's culture, their tradition is basically Nepal's tradition and festivals like Dashain, Deepawali, etc. I don't know the situation now but their share even till 2009 was x3 their population share in civil service and government functions. They own the private and business sectors. Their yearly UN HDI value is among the highest of any group. So where is the domination?? Also the fact that many Newar castes themselves (especially Brahmans, Shresthas, Kasai, Dhobis, etc.) have never registered to be under Indigenous groups as they have written genealogies and traditions and their physical phenotypes that are evidences enough to show you that they migrated in the recent past - thus not making them true Adivasis of the region. So how are they indigenous again?? Why is the definition based on totally unscientific grounds just meant to exclude Bahun/Chetris??

This is the kind of discussion that is utterly unnecessary and incites riots and unwarranted war. Shame on you to start this thread.

BadhiJanne · Aug 15, 2015 10:18 PM

how you going to develop Nepal like this?

sweesher · Aug 15, 2015 10:31 PM

Please be careful of people like NAS. All his thread is nothing but hatred towards someone (religion/caste) or about sex. So careful of what you believe from this guy. This was unnecessary, shame on you.
