Govt to give free air tickets to migrants losing kin Posted on May 8, 2015 by DKTM The government has decided to arrange two-way air tickets for free for Nepali migrant workers who have lost family members in their home districts in the big earthquake. A Cabinet meeting on Thursday decided to bear the cost of two-way air tickets for the bereaved citizens if they wish to return to the country by mid-June. “Government will arrange free tickets for citizens who have lost at least one member of their family in the quake,” said Minister for Information and Communications Minendra Rijal. However, the migrant workers have to meet certain criteria set by the government. The criteria are yet to be made public. Meanwhile, the Cabinet has also decided to mobilize 500 separate teams, comprising five members each, for collecting details of the losses caused by the quake, assisting with relief distribution and managing the reconstruction project. The government said the teams will fan out to each and every municipality and village development committee. Each team will be led by an under-secretary, an officer or a school invigilator and will include an engineer, an assistant officer, the municipal or VDC secretary concerned and one peon, said Rijal. The Cabinet has meanwhile thanked foreign rescue teams involved in rescue operations in the aftermath of the earthquake and entrusted Minister for Foreign Affairs Mahendra Bahadur Pandey to finalize the farewell plans for the remaining foreign relief and rescue teams.
