hello all, I did UBER Lyft for few months just to see if its worth it. I still had a full time job, I drove during weekends and overall didnt make much. My question is I had a full time job at that time and still do. So, when I added those earnings on my own yesterday(by looking at my bank statement) I was suppose to pay another $500. Is it necessary to add those earning since it is quite small comparatively to my paycheck? Any finance, tax experts in Sajha?

While you are waiting for your tax related response, I have a quick question re Uber. Maile ni weekend ma tyatikai time pass garna Uber chalaunu paryo bhaneko, my Auto Insurance Co. Geico, said even online application to Uber is ground for cancellation. Forget about doing the actual rideshare (for which I'd require P2P license from my City - mero state specific rules ho yo). Anyways, what Uber said is that my own private insurance will cover me at all times. But when the Uber app is ON - their coverage would kick in (they have a descriptive diagram in their blogsite as well). Then Geico told me that it is not the case in my state. I am not covered at all (private auto coverage) even if I rideshare for Uber X. Meaning, when I am driving private, say, I am driving for my full time job (and not for Uber) during the weekday - even then I am not covered. I 'd have to get a completely different commercial auto - which is cost prohibitive. So I wrote Uber about this and they immediately cancelled my membership. And I also called Geico to let them know that it was just a curious inquiry and that I have NOT actually used Uber. Bottomline: Geico said, drive Uber and your policy is gone (doesn't matter if the app was on or not). Question: Did you face similar issue re private auto coverage from your existing provider? How did you maintain your coverage (when not driving for Uber)? Thanks!

Uber should send you 1099 detailing ur income n deductions, u should include any income along with associated expenses regarding to the Uber. Even if u earn 100k from full time but had total income of $500 ftom Uber, you should include that.

Any income reported to IRS , needs to be report income ( unless 10 or less ) while you file tax. How do you report it depends on type of income reported (which box is checked my wild guess is 3 or 7 most likely ) on 1099. If it is 3, you can straight put it as other income net of expenses ( you have to show the math) If it is reported on box 7 and net is 400 and over then you have to use form Schedule C, which is small business income, and you have to pay self employments taxes. You have not done it before , you may need to go to a local tax filing ( do not go on Feb but visit on mid March , in Jan and Feb , price is inflated for tax payers eligible for EIC and who gets chunk of money as a refund). thanks @ark @magorkhe1 for you help. I didn't know they tax so much, probably just because my overall gross amount could be higher. Oh well! @kalidasbhaisaab for me I used my personal insurance since I didn't drive all the time. I never had any issues, but now I think there are more strict concern with the insurance companies that they would not want you to use just personal insurance when driving. Lift or Uber, I think will want your insurance to cover whatever cost if accident/collision/medical and they cover after that upto 1 mil. Saying that, ask them too. I haven't driven for a long time and have no intention to do so from now. I think if you are single and want to make extra cash, or even make acquaintance then do it. Best of luck.
