While I am trying to send my old passport for MRP to Nepali embassy in DC, I want to ask if I can travel within USA(say for example from Chicago to California) without passport in hand. Please any experience/advise will be appreciated. Thanks.

You just need one valid form of id (state id/ license / learners permit/Ead card .) . you dont need passport to travel with in US.
