» 01/28/2014 15:13 NEPAL Nepali radio programmes about the life of Jesus bring Hindus to Christianity by Christopher Sharma Catholics launched a programme in 2013 to great success. Dozens of letters from both adults and children reach the programme with stories about their conversion. For the first time since the fall of the monarchy, state-owned Radio Nepal broadcasts Christian programmes. Kathmandu (AsiaNews) - A series of radio programmes about the life of Jesus is giving hope to hundreds of Hindu children and orphans as well as victims of poverty and domestic violence. Some radio stations have begun broadcasting Christian programmes in 2013, written by Catholics and Protestants. The best known is Balbatika, children's programme produced by Nepali Catholics. In a few months, the show reached considerable success and many listeners, especially children, wrote to the radio with their stories about changes in their life thanks to the radio. "I come from a Hindu family," wrote Laxmi Gandharva, a 10-year-old girl from Rupandehi District (Lumbini). "I was two years old when my father died. My mother is very religious and fasts twice a week. Despite her prayers, our life has not changed. Stories about our family made me very sad. I might be little but I do under understand how serious the situation is." Laxmi met some Catholic children, she said, and went to Mass, which she calls "Sunday school." "Unfortunately, my mother punished me when she found out and forbade me from going to church," she explained. "One day, as I tried to change channels on the radio, I turned the dial to Balbatika, a programme whose songs I recognised because I had heard them during Mass. So, I decided to listen to the whole show," she said. "I learnt this way that Jesus loves children and I realised that I want to love him and obey his teachings." "I know that for now I cannot go to church, but I decided that when I'm older I'll go," she noted. "I think that one day my mother will understand. I ask you to pray for me." "Your programme has helped me know Jesus and pushed me to go regularly to Sunday school [i.e. Mass]," wrote another listener, Bikas Pariyar, in an e-mail to the radio. "These meetings taught me to be obedient towards my elders and love my enemies." Carried by both state owned Radio Nepal and private Kantipur Radio, Atmik Abhiyan is a programme aimed at adult listeners that includes prayers and passages from the Gospels that provide spiritual support to the listeners. Until a few years ago, "despite the fall of the monarchy such a programme would have been unthinkable," said Tara Singh Kathayat, director of the group that hosts the programme. "In the past, we tried several times to propose programmes," he explained, "but the authorities turned down our requests because we are Christians." However, the establishment of a secular state and religious freedom in the country has given Christians a chance to have their own radio shows. "Our efforts have paid off and now our programmes have become very popular throughout the country with listeners of all ages," Singh said. Because of the success of the programmes on the life of Jesus, over the next few months the Catholic Church plans to set up its own media centre, a radio station, and a website. It will also publish a newsletter.

Christians and muslims spread hatred against other religions whether they are in majority or in minority. They are worst as*h0les on the planet. 10-20 years ago 95% Nepalis were just Hindus and Buddhists living in peace. Now with foreign missionaries funded by the West promoting their cancer called Christianity, this is causing division in Nepali society. Who will you blame when in 20 years in the future, Hindus and Christians start killing each other? We were one in the past and it should be like that in the future. Divided we fall This is a typical example of what Christians are really like. Arrogant Fools. http://imgur.com/a/UGGEm Last edited: 09-Feb-14 08:40 AM

I am Hindu. There was a post where white woman was not allowed to enter Pashupatinath but nobody question me when I pray with Christian folks in church. Now we can come to conclusion which religion has more flexibility of welcoming other people of color. Its stupidity to change religion since we not practicing our own. Let keep religion behind and be more liberal to deal with diversity. All wars in the world are from religion (Example: Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Israel, Germany and on). Also, we should not forget "Shiva Sena" from India are extreme Hindus who always fight with other religions.

The present day "Hinduism" is very rigid on its rituals and practices. The pure "Vedic Religion" has been forgotten and the distorted version of Vedic Religion which we call "Hinduism" has been followed by present day Hindus. Many scriptures during Vedic age was composed by women seers. Women had a high place during vedic age but in modern Hinduism things have been changed. Caste system, rigid rituals, and many strange rituals are practiced by modern day Hindus which is totally absent in Vedic Religion. I simply don't understand why so called "Non-Hindus" are not allowed in Pashupatinath when Vedas clearly declares that "Sarvam Khalu idam Bhraman" meaning "All this verily is Bhraman." Therefore, until and unless we bring back the pure Vedic Religion in Nepal, discrimination won't stop.

Blah blah blah...I was converted to Hindu since I grew up in Kathmandu. I blame radio Nepal for that. I don't know whose idea was that to air Dharmik karyakram early in the morning. Anyways, that was a huge successful propaganda. I believe It should not have been on air for so many years. If Hindus can brain wash Nepalis, why can't Christians? I should have been a Buddhist re! I was born Buddhist re! But the state made me a Hindu. I will not force my kids to become Hindu. I will let my Christian wife to do the brainwashing thing. :D

Hinduism is putting Nepal on the fast track to a failed state and the Nepalese on the surefire path to the lowest achievement in human development index. :D Have fun now. :)
