Hey folks, I tried to find how priority date is determined but it is damn confusing. So it would be of great help if any one can give me some information for the question I have. lets say I am on H1B since 2011.  If I file for GC now, what would be my priority date? is it gonna be 2011 or the date that USCIS acknowledge my GC filing.   Since H1B is dual intent visa, I personally think the priority date would be  2011. However I am not sure so anyone who filed GC from H1B could be of great help here.  Thanks for your input.

It does not matter how long you been working on H1b.If the company wants to file you a GC, they hav to file a labor certificate on behalf of you.As soon as it files you one and if it get approved then you can file I140.The day they receive your Labor its your prority date. And, you wait to become your date current or with in the cut-off dates mentioned on the VISA bulletin.
