Recently, after the plight of Nepali workers were brought into the news by the guardian, many Nepalis have actively protested against Qatar's treatment of migrant workers. It is encouraging to see many Nepalis showing their support for their fellow Nepali brothers and sisters who are suffering under an unfair regime. Almost 16,000 Nepalis have showin their support through online petition at change.org, which was created by Karma Tenzing Nyangmi of New York. Karma has been a staunch supporter and initiator of this movement which is slowly gaining much needed momentum among global Nepalis, inter-national administrations and media all across the globe. This is a note to appreciate his leadership and benevolence for a great cause that could affect the well being of thousands of Nepalis stranded in Qatar in search of a better life. Salute to the unfaltering and infectious determination of the man in the middle, and hoping that something positive will come out of this movement soon. In the video, I saw so many people who took time out of their busy schedules to go make a statement. They are not going to gain anything from it. They hope that in some ways it will reduce the misery of other Nepalis workers who are abused. Nepalis who they don't even know. Just because of the fact that they happen to be Nepalis. It was just touching to see the concern and the hope that somehow it will make a difference. Hopefully it will. Last edited: 11-Oct-13 03:25 PM   The treatment of migrant workers in Qatar is horrendous but if we want to get things into perspective, the abuse starts from Nepal, and we should not forget that either. As they say prevention is better than cure so we may need to get some things in a row back in Nepal, alongside with the campaign for Qatar. Clearly, even after seeing multiple ongoing cases where manpower agencies make false promises and sends aspiring Nepalis to their doom in a foreign land, the government has done nothing. These manpower agencies continue to abuse and extort money out of innocent Nepalis whose only fault is they want to make a good life for their families back in Nepal by toiling in the heat of the middle east. This problem has been there for decades, and this might be the heart of the problem where Nepali manpower agencies promise a worker a higher amount of pay and better working conditions, but when the worker lands in Qatar, he is given something far less than what he was promised. Noone holds these manpower agencies accountable and the saga continues as more coffins return home. Unless and until we can hold our own government accountable and pressure them do what they are supposed to do, this is never going to end. We can protest against the treatment in Qatar as much as we want, but as long as these manpower agencies are sending more and more workers there everyday under false hopes and fake contracts, the Nepali workers are always going to feel abused, ripped off and in a bind.  Fair enough! Regardless of the caps and bolds, I do think net effect of this protest is positive.  However, I had visited the Shram Mantralaya in Nepal last year and having seen what goes into there openly, I'd say that the core of the probem is inside Nepal itself, more than Qatar.
