I have been working as an RA for a research institution and it's been almost 8 months. My institution is not enrolled in the E-verify and hence my OPT cannot be extended. I talked with my boss about the H1 but he is kind of thinking about the J1 application to save some money. I would appreciate you knowledge and opinions what would/could  happen regarding my future plan of staying here in US as a legal resident if in case i happen to have J1 visa. Another thing i am worried is what would happen to my plan to go nepal as i am planning to go within a year. Thank you.

BBMB, I have seen people coming here as J1 and then later on taking J1 waiver to change status to H1B. According to them it is not difficult, just that it takes 2/3 months. IMHO, you don't need to worry about that so much.

if i ever go to nepal with j1 and get married, will it be tougher, easier or so-so to bring my wife here in US as compared to H1?

I know in general h1 is considered better than j 1 I think. But I have never been in this situation personally so do not know.

i also think so. I tried to research on this things and tried to talk with my friends about the j1 but none had idea because they have not been in the situation. I feel like if i go for j1 then i will have some setbacks while transfering to another company but not sure yet.
