Hey Guys My DL expires on August 18 and I wont be able to renew my DL until after a week of it expiring. Now my question is can I travel domestic with expires DL ? If No is the answer.. My passport is Valid but my Visa has expired.. Can I travel with that? Any suggestions would be highly appreciated!

If you have a passport, I believe that should suffice. You don't need a VISA to be travelling domestically.

Yes, like kiddo said you can travel inside US with your valid passport even if your visa is expired. But I would say don't show your expired ID at any public venues. They have the right to hold your expired ID and you might wanna avoid unneccessary questions. Once, my friend showed an expired ID at a bar and this guy took his ID away and denied permission to enter even though he was of legal age. Last edited: 30-Jul-13 10:11 AM

Hmm thanks @kiddo and @datktmguy for the replies. I just hope that they just let me go with the passport :)

You might wanna check with your local DMV. Normally, your DL stays valid for additional 30-120 days for driving after the expiration date.

You can travel with your valid passport. Does not matter if visa has expired also (this applies to within USA only)

Alina they don't look for your expiration date on ID they look for your name verification and probably DOB. So you are goooood! But if they do catch you! I didn't say a word... I will delete this message hai!

I am afraid you're wrong SanuG. They do check the date of expiration. An Expired License is legally considered not a valid ID in all 50 states. License's validity and its value expires as soon as it expires. Even proof of birth cannot be legally administered via expired License. I agree with datktmguy, if the Lic is expired, just don't show it. The bar incident that you recount is strange however, I think the bouncer was just hustling. He has no right to keep anything that belonged to you. Riddle is right in that some states (like Iowa) will let you drive with your expired license upto 60 days, but I believe you cannot use it as an ID outside of driving as soon as it expires.

Alina looks like you are SOL!! Why don't you catch a train or Bus to get somewhere, I don't think you have to show ID to buy tickets do you? Kiddo might know the answer...

For some reason, I misread the original question. This should help the OP further.http://www.tsa.gov/contact-us But like someone's already said, as long as you've got a valid passport, you should be good. Bear in mind, visa's validity is irrelevant while traveling within the U.S. unlike a majority of Europe where you're required to carry a passport w/ valid visa at all times.

Hmm Now I am super confused. @sanug: I would take a train but since i am travelling from Philly to Texas for the weekend.. That would just be LOL .. @Riddle: I read the TX DL are valid for 60 days after they exxpire but I am not sure abt that either So, after reading every thing I think I will just take my passport and not show them my ID.. Thanks a lot guys!
