Getting work-permit / greencard through spouse: I know this question has been asked many times in Sajha before but i did not pay attention to it and please forgive me for my ignorance. I am already in the United States, now on opt and my opt is about to expire. I have to support my mom back-home so do not want to go back to school for masters. My opt is expiring on July and we recently got married in the court and my wife is a US citizen by naturalization. I am thinking to file for work-permit / greencard through spouse; could you please enlighten me if i need to file I-130 and I-485 both or just I-130. Is there any other form i need to fill to file employment authorization card? And how long does it take to get work-permit once i file it. Should i wait to file as i recently got married with her. We have been living together for a while but not were married on US court. Should that count as we have signed our lease together? I am not worried about green-card right now all i need is work-permit so i can work and support my family backhome. Any suggestions/ explanations / advices will be highly appreciated. You can file both I-130 and I-485 together. You need not file for I-765 (Employment Authorization) separately because you are filing I-485. Because your spouse is a citizen, you don't need to wait it line so the whole process won't take more than 6 months. Once you file both I-130 and I-485 together, you may get your Employment Authorization within 3 months. Your leased apartment will be of great importance. Because you said you are recently married, in fact you will have to show many other joint documetns such as joint bank account, joint insurance policy on your vehicle, joint utility bill, etc. Just prepare all the documents and apply.

bro read the guidelines TWICE and fill the form. its not that hard. USCIS provides you those guidelines for a reason!
