And here's for the future Bismarck-Mandan Chamber event draws crowd and details continued economic strength  The Bismarck-Mandan Chamber of Commerce, with the support of Starion Financial, unveiled survey results that indicate a strong economic future for Bismarck-Mandan businesses.  Chamber President Kelvin Hullet welcomed more than 120 attendees and thanked the business and education communities for collaborating on the survey. "The University of Mary developed the questions that were presented in the poll and provide a baseline for comparing economic conditions in the future," he said.  Starion's Bismarck Bank President Tim Karsky presented the survey findings. Results indicate that Bismarck-Mandan businesses:  · Conduct 72% of their business in-state  · Are considered small businesses - 53% employ 1-19 full-time equivalents; 24% employ 100+  · Experienced a strong 2012 - 89% experienced a sales increase; 76.6% increased profitability  · Expect a strong 2013 - 82.7% expect increased sales; 76.2% increase in profits; 42.1% will hire  · Are investing in the future - 64.2% increased capital expenditures in 2012 and 60.6% will in 2013  While the survey indicates a strong and healthy business community, Karsky acknowledged that the businesses also indicated concerns. Among the top are difficulty attracting and retaining qualified employees, increasing government regulation and increased competition.  The survey confirmed what economist Dr. Ernie Goss shared at the beginning of the event, which was that North Dakota is in an enviable position when it comes to economic conditions across the county. Goss predicts that North Dakota will continue to have economic growth, but at a slower pace. "It will continue to be positive," he said.  "The survey results paint a great picture of our community," said Hullet.
