Vijay Kumar repeatedly asked about the relationship with Rekha even after Amitabh refused to answer. Finally Amitabh got angry and he answered some question ironically saying that he is not even skilled to interview......This is what I heard from my seniors. no, that's not true IT_GUY. Bijay Kumar first asked him about glamour hindi movie industry and 2nd was how many times Amitabh visited Nepal. Then on 2nd answer, Amitabh replied as when he came first time Nepal you were not even born.

I also heard different answers from different people. Some of my friends told me Bijaya kumar asked Amita Bachan about his involvement in corruption. some told Bijaya kumar asked about rekha. some told bijaya panday did not have good english at that time and he took interview in Hindi. Today one of my friends told me bajay kumar asked "is this your first time in Nepal" and Bachan Answer was "हो सैकता हे कि तुम उस बक्त आफनी मा के गॊद मे लपट र हे थे |

I heard that most of the viewer ripped off Vijay Kumar for asking question in English while Amitabh himself was asnwering in Hindi. Those days, a Nepali host speaking in English woiuld have sounded like one trying to be a smartass. I dont remember the exact timing, might be two years agoo I happened to read an article/blog/facebook whatever it is, Vijya Kumar clarified whole fiasco. According to him, showing question asked in Hindi in Nepalese National Television would have hurt Nepalese sentiments. He actually conducted whole interview in Hiindi but for the sake of Nepalese pride or whatever it is, they simply edited the questions asked in Hindi and reshoot those questions in English back in the studio.

I heard it was a major fight between two dick-heads in the 80s when Amitabh came to Kathmandu for his triple-role movie called Mahaan. Speaking of a dick-head, you should have actually observed Mr. Bachchan's hairstyle in those days. Jokes were abound among testosterone-rearing boys in my hood about that hairstyle and that "farkeko" adjective those boys used for that thing. LOL It was said that Mr. Pandey was also adding ghee to fire by persistently prying into areas that Amitabh did not want to delve into and saw all these Bijay's inquisitions coming as an insult. On ABs part, interviews should be treated as a dream-job interview by any interviewee. Period. One can always decline to answer or walk out respectfully especially (in that case) while large number of Nepali fans were watching the telecast. Instead, the "Hindi filmy" icon turned into a spitfire indulging himself knee-deep into the fiasco. After all that was said and done, the Nepali fans who made angry phone calls to the TV station the next day, should have realized that the counter-insult of a Nepali journalist in a Nepali land is also a direct insult to his Nepali fans and callous Nepali onlookers. To be fair also, Mr Pandey should have only asked about topics that would satisfy the curiosity of the Nepalis by limiting to areas that would have been more stimulating and positive. Uncovering celebrity affairs and orgies should be job of the tabloid magazine and not that of a promising journalist. There you have it. But that was long time ago, I hope both of these individuals have changed for better and solemnly pray that they create movies/shows of concise length for the facebookly time-constrained audience of this generation.

It was long time ago before the era of internet and you tube. Amitabh Bacchan was even bigger superstar in Bollywood. In Nepal we had only one channel which aired for few hours a day. Newreaders had to wear National dress and one could not conduct interviews in Hindi. It was a big deal to get an interview from AB. Bijay Kumar asked questions in English for the reason mentioned above and Amitabh Bacchan answered in Hindi ( I think reason given was that more people would understand). I can.t remeber name of the movie but it was interview taken in Jhomson not KTM where the movie was being shot. AB was asked about Rekha but he was polite with his answers. I think nothing much actually happened that is whay there is confusion as to what happened. Ofcourse AB was a superstar and you could see that in that interview but it was perhaps wrong to compare his personality with that of a promising journalist which some people did to belittle our journalist which I think was unfair. I can't remeber anything other than language issue in that interview and nothing worth talking about it after decades.

This was back in October of 1992 during the shooting of the movie Khudagawha in Jomsom. The initial shoot was in Afghanistan, but due to the volatile situation delevoping in Afghanistan during that time, Jomsom was selected to be the shooting spot depicting Afghanistan. Alongside Bachhan, there were other actors like Sridevi, Sonam, Kiran Kumar etc...forgot the entire list. Infact, Amitabh celebrated his B'day in Jomsom with a hand deliver cake via a RNAC flight from Kathmandu. The interview was in a Jomsom hotel - the hotel still exists in Jomsom with a big billboard stating "The Hotel Amitabh Bachahn stayed". Anyways, among other things, the main question that set off Amitabh was something like "how do you control/manage yourself while doing a romance scene with actressess?"....Bijay Kumar Pandey was morelike having a 'coccky' attitude, if you will. Then came a sharp pat from Amitabh with "what are you talking about......we are artists simply performing an act"...& further went on "how could you ask such an unprofessional question" etc. Dont know the exact contents though, was a long time back. That initiated the downfall of Pandey. Hope he's recovered well now. That is the story!

' Initiated the down fall of Bijay Kumar' This is your story. That was in 1992 and we still talk about Bijay Kumar in 2012. Amitabh Bacchan was polite throughout the interview. This is how I remember that interview and this is my story. Last edited: 29-Dec-12 03:40 PM
